ä The study compared Utica’s department and crime statistics to Schenectady’s. Utica’s violent crime numbers tend to be lower than Schenectady’s, but Utica has had a higher rate of prostitution arrests.
Utica has a great Polish bakery and Polish market -- as well as a great Polish social club. These are things that Schenectady really needs to raise its RENAISSANCE to the awesome level. The best cities in the world - like Warsaw and London - have Polish markets, restaurants and bakeries. Polish cuisine and culture is 2nd only to Scottish and Scandinavian cuisine and culture. All other cuisines and cultures are just -- to use the word in its original meaning -- vulgar or common place.

Didn't we have all that years ago? Eastern Ave, parts of Mt Pleasant, PNA Hall ? All gone? Renaissance to an awesome level? Sure.
Yes, the RENAISSANCE is doing quite well, and what it needs to bring it to the awesome level are some Polish businesses -- markets, restaurants, bakeries and more. The BEST communities in the world have vibrant Polish businesses. It raises the quality of life to the highest level.

No Polish businesses are coming back here, I'm amazed some of the Italian stores are still around although they to are dying off as well, the only thing I see popping up is stores that sell Halal and goat meat

Well, I wouldn't say never to Polish businesses coming back here.

I have been there. However, I don't really care for going into Troy very much.

I'm sure Schenectady will catch up!!
PS: Polish businessmen are too smart to come up to a high crime, high tax location! Heck, many of the Green Point businesses moved BACK to Poland years ago when the economy was tanking (NY Times reported that a few years back).
If you don't lower the taxes or improve the school district, the City doesn't have a shot.
Reputation is what others think about you - as an individual it's no big deal - as a City it will make or break that location. Schenectady's reputation is still in the toilet and needs a major overhaul!!
