A city man faces a felony charge of assault for allegedly using a lighter to cause substantial pain and burn the penis of a 7-year-old boy, according to court papers.
Edwin Rodriguez, 37, is charged with forcible touching, reckless endangerment and child endangerment, all misdemeanors, in connection with the June 3 incident in the city's Mont Pleasant neighborhood, according to the criminal complaint. The court document accuses Rodriguez of also grabbing the boy's penis and twisting it "for the purpose of degrading or abusing" the youngster. The boy needed medical attention.
Rodriguez allegedly slapped the boy on his head until it caused bruising, the court papers state. Neither Assistant District Attorney Brian Gray, the prosecutor, nor Sven Paul, Rodriguez's lawyer, could not be reached for comment.
