Gee, remember how former mayor Al brought TENS OF THOUSANDS of people into the park.
What have Stratton and McC and their fellow DEMS done for the park?
They can't even ever get the pool open by first day of summer vacation!
Everything for them, for the DEMS is downtown, downtown and their multimillion dollar developers and property owners giving the kickbacks to the DEMS while the taxpayers and residents of the city and the neighborhoods get sh*t on, while the city's tax based TUMBLES BIG TIME, property values fall, home sales and home sale prices fall.
Let's see if ANYONE can provide EVIDENCE to the contrary.
TOTAL SILENCE

Park pool open, but casino is still closed
Schenectady got the Central Park swimming pool opened in time for these ongoing scorching temperatures, but the adjacent Casino snack bar remained closed.
Through the decades, the Casino has had soda, ice cream, pizza, popcorn and other snacks available for swimmers and other park-goers. During more recent times, there has been a shortage of vendors interested in leasing the building.
The Casino last failed to open for the summer in 2009 when an operator could not be found. Then-Councilman Gary McCarthy said no vendors applied even though the city lowered its lease fee to "basically nothing."
McCarthy, now mayor, did not return calls inquiring about the current Casino status. Other city sources said there was no reason to believe the snack bar would be open later this summer
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
NO CASINO???????????...... wow.....these people have certainly goofed and ignored what the residents and visitors need........it will never be the same......and either will the City...
YOU know, if you could run that place right - there is a lot of potential in a place like that
Never ever going to happen.
You'll never be able to turn any type of profit because of all the crazy expensive fees, licenses, insurance and regulations.....And that's just to start up.
Let's not forget that your only open during the warmer months, so that means your closed for 8 months out of the year.
I would blame Mayor McCheeseball if tax money has been sunk into it and (whoever) the vendor failed.

Casino was always open when we were kids, open winter too during the skating season iirc. Just something else that is no more and most likely never will be. I know my own children got tired of me telling them what an awesome place Schenectady was to grow up in when I was a kid. All gone now, has been for a long time. Disheartening to say the least.

Agreed. It would cost a lot just to take the equipment, (which doesn't fair well when not used for long periods), out of hibernation. Replacing a freezer or a grill can cost over $2k. Commercial kitchen equipment is pricey, but you won't even pass inspection with consumer stuff. Porcelain surfaces of any kind are not allowed.
Then there is the basic infrastructure like plumbing, electricity, roofing, locks etc. Not to mention the probable vandalism that would have to be addressed. I'm thinking $20k at the lowest.
Everybody that can fry an egg thinks they open a restaurant, and that's why 80% don't even make it past the first year.
