SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Schenectady Police Department is currently looking for a woman with Alzheimer's who wandered away from her home early Friday morning.
The missing person has been identified as Mary Wright, 68, of Schenectady.
She is described as a black female, approximately 5 ft. 6 in., 210 pounds with thinning black and gray hair. She was last seen wearing a white undershirt and blue Capri pajama pants. Wright was last seen shortly after midnight and discovered missing around 3 a.m. today.
Wright also suffers from insulin dependent diabetes, high blood pressure and dementia. A "Silver Alert" has been requested by the police department.
Bumping this up She was possibly seen near Vale Cemetary, but could be anywhere. If everyone just checked their yard, took a walk down their block, check alleyways, get the word out to neighbors and friends, she has been missing since app. 1am Friday morning.
remember......not in a high class neighborhood...ood..if it was someone else.....you would see more searching......hope she is ok......where is neighborhood watch????????????......are they awake???
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - There has been no sightings of Mary Wright, the 68-year-old Schenectady woman with Alzheimer's, who wandered from her home on June 28th.
Schenectady Police Department is still investigating Wright's disappearance and again is asking the public to remain vigilant and notify authorities if they see anyone resembling her.
Since her disappearance, the Schenectady Police Department, with the assistance of the New York State Forest Rangers and many volunteers, have conducted very thorough searches of the wooded areas near her home, the Woodlawn Drainage Project, as well as Vale Cemetery and Vale Park, all with negative results.
The ponds within Vale Park were checked by members of the New York State Police Dive Team, also with negative results.
There have been no sightings of Wright since the late morning hours of Friday, June 28th when she wandered from her home on Queens Drive.
Wonder how much money she had with her, she may not have enough to get on the bus.
Don't think they said if she had a pocketbook or not, if she was just wearing pajama pants and a undershirt she probably just took off with no money. This isn't looking to good especially with the heat we are having, add the fact she needs insulin for her diabetes
"In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot."
Almost a full week missing : ( For some reason no search dogs used when she went missing, don't understand that.
If she lived near the woods thermal imaging could be used, not sure if they tried that. Trying to find her on foot through the woods might be hard if she is scared and confused, she might of not responded to any calls of her name.

If only they had gotten the K-9 search dogs the day she went missing, got her scent from her home and had the dogs follow to see what direction she went , then a search concentrated in that area I think she might have been found : ( Now after a week probably not an option.
Visitor any thoughts on why the K-9's not used ASAP after she went missing?
Henry she probably was scared : ( People with Alz. tend to wander and find a spot to "hide" and many times won't answer to their name depending on what state of ALZ they are at.
I put up flyers on poles in my area and had a couple of business's put them in their window. I'd sit on my porch just looking and looking and hoping.
Hearbreaking, she has been on my mind and in my heart since she went missing. Can't imagine what the family is going through. : (

This bothers me, not enough info given out. Would have been helpful to know where she used to live, used to work, places she commonly visited, did she do this before and where was she found, etc etc.
Most with ALZ forget short term memory and remember things from the past, just thinking she might have tried to go to a place that was familiar years back.
Also she was supposedly spotted near Moyston and State a couple of times, there are cameras in some of the bus stops also there are business's in that area that could possibly have cameras that I hope were looked at.
Most people who wander with ALZ are found within a mile and a half of their home.
Hate to repeat but WHY WAS NO K-9 USED right away : (
rforpres - not sure that didn't happen. but, if not could have been a case of too much time between the time she was reported missing , maybe it rained between the time she was reported missing. not sure, even if one of City dogs was not available they typically call in one of the other K( teams in the area.
Yeah Cicero - the police never look for missing people. They pretty much look for missing people several times a week, but let's pretend that does not happen so you can make your paranoid, simple minded point.

Let's not pretend the police are dedicating resources scouring the city looking for missing persons. Let's not pretend when a missing persons call comes in that Schenectady has a dedicated task force to find missing persons. Sure, patrolmen may be made aware of a missing person and given a name and description, but they are not canvassing wooded areas and dark ally's. Especially when the missing person is not a minor.
