Does the tentative assessment roll now online show what should be on the final roll if you didn't grieve, or can the amount go up?
Yes, I believe. That is, I believe that an assessment value shown on the tentative roll CANNOT increase. People grieve most often to get the assessment amount reduced, or to correct errors in exemptions, e.g., if someone applied for Senior STAR, has the proof that application was made, has the income information which has is below the max amount for Senior STAR they would grieve, or maybe error by assessor's office, let's say in the difference between combat vet and regular vet exemptions. Sometimes it could be on the roll as a two family rather than a one family which then MIGHT show a higher assessment on the assumption it's income producing (although sales comparison approach is what I believe is used for all residential properties in determining value. I don't believe an assessment can be increased from the tentative roll date to the final roll date, but don't quote me, you could check with NYS ORPS to be certain |
