Here we go again. The HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of TAX DOLLARS plus the tons of money from rents, from the lavish expensive weddings and other banquets, from the shows, isn't enough
Taxpayers will not be FORCED to fork over MORE of THEIR MEAGER INCOMES!!!!

Metroplex OKs Proctors marquee work Published 9:15 pm, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 Schenectady
Metroplex money will help spruce up the showpiece downtown district.
The redevelopment agency announced Wednesday that its board of directors approved $368,000 in funds for improvements to a marquee at Proctors and for a new median between Schenectady County Community College and the downtown area.
Metroplex will provide $97,000 toward the $193,000 cost of restoring the three-decades old marquee facing State Street, while a smaller marquee behind Proctors facing Stratton Plaza will also be renovated.
The upgrades by Olson Signs and Graphics in Scotia will allow the theater to stream video about shows and attractions and should be online by year end.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris said Proctors will "add to the energy and look with modern graphics within our historic marquees."
The Metroplex Board also agreed dedicate up to $175,000 to build a new median on Washington Avenue that will create a permanent pedestrian link between SCCC and lower State Street. A temporary barrier was erected last year after the new college dorms were completed.
Work on the median is expected to start in August.
One question I have as far as the type of marquee, of this is a historic theater, can they put use modern technology. Just like on historic houses with the cold drafty wood windows, the people are NOT allowed to install modern technology energy efficient einyl windows, When the marquee was changed that 30 years ago, it was done to replicate the original marquee instead of that angled marquee that most baby boomers will remember.
But regardless, here we go STEALING from the taxpayers.
Now, let's see what people ONE cheerleader can explain how this stealing of more taxpayer money is going to increase the tax base in the city, how this project will increase home values in the city, how will this project result lower the tax bills of homeowners, how will this wild spending will improve the neighborhoods in the city---those places where people live, how will it help to improve the vital necessary services to residents (water mains, sewers, potholes, tree roots, curbs, sidewalks, police protection, fire protection, dilapidated houses, etc.)
Guarantee, TOTALLY SILENT onan explanation of how this wild spending will help the tax base or increase home values.
Perhaps a sentence, "....the city is improving....in a renaissance...." But a 100% ABSOLUTE TOTAL GUARANTEE, there will be no explanation as to how this spending will increase the city's tax base or make things easier for the overburdened taxpayers.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Millions spent on a theater ...which provides NOTHING to the sales tax base...contributes NOTHING to the City schools...pays not a stitch of property taxes...and is getting MORE MONEY from the Plex?????
Like a bunch of low class prostitutes all servicing each other.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
was talking with a guy that was raised here....moved out west 18 years.....came back here and thought downtown 'looked' great!!.....bought a house on eastern pkwy......now he said he can't get out fast enough!!!! He said the crime is his #1 concern!!! 2nd to that is that he has just learned about all of the taxpayer's money via METROPLEX/GILLEN!! HIS PROPERTY IS UP FOR SALE AND HE'S MOVIN' OUT OF NYS!!
He also said that if his property doesn't sell before winter....the city will have yet another vacant property to deal with!!

Now that Proctors gets a new marquee... That should fix everything and FINALLY taxes will be going down.
Of course we are all waiting for people one person, who constantly says the city is in a renaissance, to comment and say the spending of this (taxpayer) money is necessary and will help continue the renaissance in the city.
He just posted a couple moments ago on a different thread, but not man enough to speak on the spending of tax money, that is, to specifically explain how the wild spending stupid things like fancy lighting, a gold ceiling, and now this marquee, to provide some evidence how spending the taxpayers money is increasing the tax base, how is it increasing home values, how is it helping home sales and sale prices.
But we ALL notice that such cheerleaders cheerleader remains totally silent -- silence is the way that you admit you are wrong as you can't provide evidence to support what you say.

Honestly mc1.....it don't mount to a hill of beans what this ONE person says one way or the other. and honestly who cares? OBVIOUSLY the majority of the folks who live in the city of schenectady like the direction the city is going in....otherwise Hull would have won the last election.....yes? And don't fool yourself.....nothing would change if others were elected, except for new names and faces that would belong to the 'new friends and family club'! It's just the way it is!! They ALL want control of the $$$$$!!!

Oh, I thought the 99th re-visit of "Wicked" was the salvation for the City? Didn't the Gazetto falsly claim that $5 million was spent Downtown with that show?
Gazetto, Plex, Proctors....half-truths, criminals, leeches....they all need one another for parasitic reasons.
Metroplex was not conceived to funnel money to the same entity over and over. This is just a blatant scam. A "decades old" marquee? Excuse me, isn't it a historic theater? Tell that leach to get up a ladder and slap some paint on the existing marquee. One of those gaudy, Times Square style marquees is inappropriate for the theater even if we wanted to pay for it. Is that why the paper ran all that crap aboutan energy plant? To prepare us for this glitzy monstrosity? Does it use more or less energy that the bulbs, does anybody know? Tacky, what a horrible waste. And the free health clinic is shutting down because we can't fund it. Sinful. Maybe we can get even more incestuous relationships going between city hall and this employment center for the otherwise useless although technically not disabled. I've had visitors from out of town who were shocked at the beauty of some of our streets. All they knew of Schenectady was decay and crime. Well, a garish new gift from the taxpayers to King Philip is not going to save our beautiful neighborhoods, is it?
