A 10-year-old girl was declared dead Wednesday night after she was found inside a Willett Street home, police said.

At 7:16 p.m., the girl, whose name has not been released, was found unresponsive inside 1088 Willett St., police said.

She was rushed to Ellis Hospital, police said, where she was later pronounced dead.

How the child died and whether police believe the death is suspicious was not immediately clear.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The welfare nation is a great thing for kids

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Apparently, the family is being very cooperative, so who knows?
Kids die all the time from things like undiagnosed heart defects, asthma, etc.

I wonder if Mr. Robinson the school super at Shen would like to ride this political wave of poor student death...oh wait...she probably
wasn't popular....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Her name was Reilyn Rivera, funeral is tomorrow.

Nothing referencing an organization for memorial contributions, which often can be an indicator of a cause, i.e., donating to the disease research that caused the death.

Seemed to have attended Pleasant Valley School and also Rosendale in Nisky.

Nothing further on the news, I'd guess nothing suspicious.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

I saw her obit    Most likely some genetic maybe undetected heart issue. Can't even imagine for the family

We hear of kids passing during sport activities.

JMO but maybe an echocardiogram of the heart should be part of every child's physical  exam for kindergarten.

Then these issues maybe can be caught early and hopefully treatment available.

May she RIP such a beautiful little girl.

The editorial, "An end-of-session agenda," June 2, left a big bill for small hearts off the list that our legislators should finish before they recess for the year: Pass the pulse oximetry bill.
A "pulse ox" test is a simple, noninvasive test that only requires that a sensor be placed on a baby's finger and toe at birth to measure the level of oxygen in a baby's blood.
The pulse ox bill backed by the American Heart Association would make sure every newborn has this test before leaving the hospital. A low oxygen level could be an indicator of a congenital heart defect, the most common kind of birth defect.
It is heart-wrenching to see your newborn baby connected to tubes and wires post surgery, but it would be far worse to lose a child or have them suffer permanent limitations because a simple test had not been performed at birth.
The state Assembly has already passed the pulse ox bill.
I hope and pray the Senate and Gov. Andrew Cuomo act quickly to save the smallest lives. Every day without this measure in place could mean another little life lost.
