I don't know if they are suggesting K-8 in one building. Apparently, they need to close Elmer Avenue School because it is in bad shape. At least that is what was reported.

They are. Oneida is in good shape? The entire district should go to K-8. Oneida should be sold to Ellis. Howe should be reopened to replace "too old" Elmer. BTW in Europe you see 400 year old schools that are still educating.

I was only passing on what I had heard in the media regarding Oneida School and Elmer School.  I haven't seen any documentation nor do I have any personal knowledge of the current structural condition of either building.
My guess and this is only a guess -- is that if the City School District has maintained (or more correctly "failed to maintain") those two school building in the same way that they have maintained (or more correctly "failed to maintain") one of the buildings that they are leasing from a local church  --- than my guess would be that BOTH Oneida and Elmer should probably be bull dozed and replaced with something new.

Before long, Ellis might have a second urgent care facility in downtown Schenectady. Work is currently under way to renovate Ellis Hospital’s main emergency room, scheduled for completion in 2015.

Several years ago, Ellis merged with the former St. Claire’s Hospital, now called Ellis Health Center, which still has a regular emergency room. However, many people use it for walk-in cases.

Most of the walk-in facilities are in locations you can't walk to. Maybe they should call them drive-in.
Okay, more Ellis, SCC, the Y, government offices, this is something we need to spend our tax money on for downtown? That isn't even a downtown it isa concentration of government supported I don't know what to call it. I do know it is a serious case of one hand washing the other.
