I believe that in many ways they have increased drug use, particularly in poor and minority neighborhoods, but that does not negate that the use of drugs affects more than the user.
Perhaps there is little impact on others from the occasional recreational pot smoker, but drugs like meth, crack, herion do and it's not because of the laws regarding the drugs.

Well lets go back to your beginning post where you said criminals decide to be criminals by breaking laws, and not the city that makes the laws. My point is, government with their laws against non violent crimes turned people into criminals. My example of Jim Crow laws is just one example where people were turned into criminals for using their own moral judgement to integrate, which didn't hurt anybody. Drug Laws will be viewed the same way over the course of time.
Jailing people for non violent crime and using them as slave labor is immoral, regardless if that person's actions fit the definition of criminal. A drug addiction doesn't give the state the right to use a person as a slave like Roger Hull is suggesting. They are not a resource.

Then tell me if the incarceration and criminal record they may have gotten for possessing heroine helped them get over their addiction. Then ask them if stricter laws and more jail time or more involved parenting would have been a better solution in preventing their addiction. Ask them if jail or rehabilitation would be a better solution for their parents addiction.

Did you only read one sentence of what I wrote? I stated that the drug laws are a failure but the effects of certain drugs are destructi e regardless of the laws that are associated with them. Do you know any addicts? Do you know anyone who has lost a parent or child, of have you lost a friend be jade thy ODed due to a thing called tolerance? Have you had your friend and roommate steal all of your money because they blew through all of their money buying herion-a drug that is extremely cheap and accessible. Do you know anyone who had their children taken away because mom was so strung out that when the kids tried to make their own dinner they set the house on fire and mom couldn't get it together enough to ensure they were safe.
Not all the negative effects of drug use are due to the laws. I am not saying the laws are good but don't pretend that if the drugs were legal that they still wouldn't fu*k up people's lives. Just look at alcohol--legal and still a destructi e force. Legal and still leaves a load of victims in its wake.
