Caught with hooker, city employee faces discipline
By Lauren Stanforth
Updated 3:19 pm, Wednesday, May 8, 2013

SCHENECTADY — A city sewer department employee will be disciplined after allegedly being found in his car with a known prostitute early Wednesday morning.

Paul LaFond, 33, who is the son of the water and sewer department director, was charged with an open container violation after being found in his car in the area of 867 Albany St. at 12:29 a.m. Tuesday. LaFond was with a woman who is known to police as a prostitute, but Lt. Mark McCracken said there wasn't sufficient evidence to show that LaFond had hired the woman for sex. LaFond was off-duty at the time and in his own car.

Mayor Gary McCarthy said "the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken." The mayor confirmed LaFond had been suspended for another incident before but wouldn't say why, citing privacy rules for the city's personnel matters.

LaFond has worked for the city for about a year-and-a-half. He previously worked for the private company that ran the waste water treatment plant before the city resumed operations of it last year.

Schenectady treatmenrt plant worker fired after arrest
Wednesday, May 8, 2013
By Kathleen Moore (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY — Mayor Gary McCarthy quickly fired a city employee Wednesday after the worker was allegedly caught after hours drinking alcohol in his car.

Police charged Paul Lafond, 33, with a violation of the open containers law. They also said he was in the car with a known prostitute but that they had no proof that he had hired the woman for sex.

Lafond was charged early Wednesday morning. At 4 p.m., he was fired.

“He is no longer employed by the city of Schenectady,” McCarthy said.

He declined to explain the reason for the termination, but said readers were likely to figure it out on their own.

Lafond is the son of the city’s deputy director of water and wastewater. They share the same name.

Lafond was one of the many plant workers who transferred to the city when Schenectady took over operation of the treatment plant last year. His title was wastewater treatment plant operator I.

Another sign of the Democrat-led RENAISSANCE in Schenectady

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Something tells me if this guy wasn't politically connected this would be a much different story. By the way I could care less about prostitution, but the open container and uneven application of the laws in place both upset me.

I have never heard of a person being fired for getting a ticket for open container.

He wasn't on duty and he wasn't using city equipment.

If I was him, I'd sue the crap out of the city.

Oh and wasn't Stratton bagged for hiring a prostitute back in the day?

Is this the same guy?

http://news.google.com/newspap.....&pg=3320,6266433

If so, he already has a pretty bad track record when it comes illegal activities in cars.

When applying for a job in govt in schitcity, they look at rap sheets like resumes: the longer the better. As a matter of fact, I am not surprised Mike Hamilton is not City Administrator or police chief, Segrue is not back at purchasing director and that pervert McIssac is not back in there as assessor or maybe better yet- youth counselor. Maybe they can hire Frank Lucas for head pharmacist at the county home, and perhaps if Cecil Price was alive they could put him into the job of Affirmative Action Director. I suspect John Dillinger could be the Director of Gun Buybacks too.

This is your Schitty of Schitnecktitty

For some jobs, maintaining a clean license is a condition of employment. If you are in a public job and know the right people, sometimes it gets covered up. But even if you get the DUI or whatever on your own time, that is still the same driving record you have on the job.

I am the city worker that was fired. I was off duty and I was charged with an open container, which was an empty beer can in the back seat of my car. My car was searched I as arrested and booked for an offense that is the equivalent of a parking violation. I was not drunk or drinking. I am a father of two and have held the same position for nearly 13 years. Interesting side note is I have an ongoing complaint for an incident with a schdy police officers in which I was threatened. I firmly believe this incident was a result of my complaint. One of the officers that physically threatened me was arrested a month later for brandishing his weapon off duty during a road rage incident.  All that aside my license is valid and I was fired targeted or not for the equivalent of a parking ticket I received outside of work... this should concern any public employee under McCarthy who was proud of his swift discipline which was my termination without an explanation.
