McCheese and his DEM cronies have announced they need to BORROW $3 MILLION to knock down some of the hundreds of vacant homes in the City.
How about "working together" with the County? Hell NO! The County DEMS are suing McCheese for uncollected County taxes. Let's see who will support this "initiative"
in the brain dead City Council. More bonds that the City cannot afford? That's your DEM working together implosion team .

How bad is it? With the City tax rate $9 a thousand above the second worst area City {Renesselaer} the DEM fiscal incompetents have to borrow $3 million just to
knock down some the the eyesores. Death Ray  does not approve. He wants every fire trap kept on the assessment rolls so the total implosion doesn't seem so bad.
Speaking of knockdowns start from Erie and State and knock down everything to the Western Gateway Bridge. The old State Theatre is a crumbling facade. After 12 years
and over $100 MILLION flushed there is nothing below Erie and Robinson's Mall is still Gillen's Gulch. 4 wheel drive parking!

Yep, posted about it yesterday.

So, in LESS THAN ONE WEEK's time, the news from the renaissance is that the city needs to come up with:

-    $1.2 MILLION to pay the county for the unpaid taxes

-    $3 MILLION to demolish some houses.

Previous to this, the city's bond rating was in the dumps as it was, the city could NOT get a loan, of course the homeowners CANNOT afford to pay for a loan anyway.

Yes it's a negative thing about the city.   However, these negatives CANNOT be ignored!!!!

Cheerleaders prefer to ignore the negatives, pretend they don't exist.   When something is ignored, it gets worse.

These negatives, ballooning by the day, MUST be addressed!!!!!!    They MUST be addressed ASAP.

And of course, since the ignoring of the negatives IS making the city worse and worse by the day, the resident board cheerleader for the dems and downtown comments on city issues due to the ever worsening situation.

As the EVIDENCE is proving that people are fleeing, houses are NOT selling, home values falling, taxes rising, and the city's tax base falling again, the cheerleader can no longer claim  that there is a renaissance in the city, he no longer can post his usual babble that the city is improving.

So he moves on to other non town-city-county issues in a fit of desperation to find something to comment on that he things people will agree with him

the city has backed themselves into an economic corner.
They created and encouraged a 'lower' income city with their lucrative welfare pkg and low interest home loans to those who transplanted or slum lorded from the city.
Forcing folks to flee the city due to their high taxes, substandard school, high crime and high fees.
Couple that with all of the non-profits and the METROPLEX/GILLEN 'give-a-ways' AND Proctors.
They have been and are continuing to lose their tax base while the costs to keep the city above water are skyrocketing.

THEY created this and now there appears to be no way out except to continue to raise taxes which the already overburdened taxpayer can't afford any longer.

Here is a novel idea: Offer to GIVE the houses to the next door owner for the cost of demolition, and once the payment is received then demolsh the property and do not raise the assessment because they have a slightly bigger yard. Too smart I guess, and why be creative? It would take some novel lawyering and some actual negotiating but my guess is that 70% of the properties could be handled that way. If I lived next door and could get the property with the burnt out house gone and new grass planted, I would pay the 5-10 grand IF my taxes would not be jacked. However, instead of it being 5-10 grand, the city has to hire the most expensive bidder and all that crap. They have to pretend that it is all hazardous waste, etc.

How about offer to give the property to any of the neighbors for free. Giving away the homes is
much better than borrowing $3 million to demolish them.

How about stop taking homes that you can't even afford to demolish.

$3 million to demolish 46 homes, not a bad profit for someone.

That's $65,000 a piece.

What is McStupid going to repay the loans with? Money from the taxpayers who aren't paying.

A few years ago I demolished a house in the city. With fees, inspection, demo, hauling and an enviro report- the cost was about 6 grand. It is nice to multiply the cost by a factor of ten, because the taxpayers are paying for it. The actual worl took 3.5 hours and that included waiting for the dump trucks to come back from the dump three times and bringing over a load of sand. Maybe it should cost 120,000instead. Only the city is thiS STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

We could move all the houses into the Taj Garage for $3 million.

Oh come now, GB, aren't you being much too negative?

Let's not be "nayboobs"

Instead, it's important to ignore the problems of the city, pretend they don't exist,  and shake our pom poms for the increased spending which necessitates increased borrowing which necessitates increased taxes which is followed by increased spending which necessitates increased borrowing which necessitates increased taxes, etc.

Round and round it goes, where it stops, no one knows.

The City can barely make minimum bond payments. Screws the City school kids and County then wants to BORROW MORE. You can't make it up. The same failed policies from the same DEM insiders
     over and over.

The house on Garner Avenue that is undergoing a "green" renovation, they have that house stripped down to bare boards, and it is right next to an elementary school. Not too much worry about hazards there. I wonder how much money they will put into that building when other houses on that block have been for sale for a year or two?

It's true, investors drop out of house auctions that I've seen recently. The numbers don't work if you don't get rock bottom prices. Good luck getting suckers to pay too much, for every house that does get sold, three more go on the market. I just heard of two more young couples in my neighborhood whoput their houses up for sale. Bumblethru has it right, except you left out the part about giveaways to unions for votes, and then letting those who got the largesse leave the city with it. How stupid of a one-sided deal can can you make? Giveaways for votes, and then giving away the votes, too.

Maybe in some of these demolitions the empty lot could be divided between the neighbors on either side. Less maintenance and a less 'empty spaces' look to the streetscape. A row of new trees could divide the property. Nah, that would be too nice, and make too much sense. See, you people are thinking from the viewpoint of someone who cares about the city and wants to preserve, maintain, and improve it for its residents. There is only one person in city government who feels that way.
