More layoffs hit Daily Gazette
Times Union  Staff report
Published 6:01 pm, Thursday, May 2, 2013
Schenectady

The Daily Gazette has laid off 10 workers, including five inside the newsroom, according to a source at the paper.

Neither Gazette General Manager Daniel Beck nor Editor Judy Patrick returned calls and emails left for comment Thursday. The cuts continue a trend of downsizing in recent years at the family-owned newspaper.

It's subtracted from the non-existent Obama stimulus package

I wonder if they've thought of maybe making the paper less crappy so more people would buy it?

Instead of trying to pin the blame on someone else, just accept the fact that this business (The Daily Gazette) like a number of other businesses which have closed aren't/weren't being run effectively nor offering a product or service that people were willing to pay for.

The Times-Union is just a much better paper.  More informative. Better reporting.  Better lay out.  More readable.  -- that is why they have more people buying their papers.

the gazetto is nothing more than the cheerleaders for the democrats.
they cheer about how wonderful the city of schenectady is.....

and lets not forget that over 60% of the city's population are on welfare and are illiterate....so they ain't readin' the rag!

the other 40% are tired of the bullsh!t lies and the political spin so they read a real news paper....the TU!!

Times Union has a weekday total average paid circulation of 66,835, compared with 62,015 for the Daily Gazette.

On Sundays:

Times Union 128,565

Daily Gazette 61,883

I think the Gazette is doing the impossible.

They are selling just about as many papers every day and Sunday, as the total population of the County.

The Daily Gazette doesn't just sell papers in Schenectady County.  Its market goes into Albany, Saratoga, Montgomery and Fulton Counties.

The Daily Gazetto has given up on Schenectady. They dropped Schenectady from their name. The growth is in Saratoga County where the editors live.
Dumping anti-Catholic Karl was a welcome move. If they added some CONS voices hey could still make it.

Oh, so now you are saying that the very very long time businesses in downtown that closed just "weren't being run effectively."

Talk about lack of intelligence!!!!!!!!!!      DV, the other businesses were closed, in the city but in particular in downtown, closed because they had to pay their own taxes PLUS the taxes of their competitors -- thanks to YOUR dems, those dems that YOU CONSTANTLY are praising on these boards!

By the way, the Gazette was covering news outside Schenectady WAY LONG BEFORE the name was changed!

Now make sure you pretend to have me on ignore because you AVOID the EVIDENCE (e.g businesses close because YOUR dems make them pay for the rich political cronies)

This was brought to my attention...    http://gawker.com/newspaper-memo-demands-staff-stop-wrecking-bathrooms-am-489757280

We get so much attention here in Schenectady.

That paper went to hell long before the interwebs came into being.

I don't know.   Story in the TU and reference was made to the e-mail.   Doubt that e-mail is real.  There have been so man variations of "memos" over the years that with a few changes in words can be adapted to any employer.   I remember reading one a friend had and it dealt with breaks and having to use the restrooms in alphabetical order.  It looked legit and sounded legit in the first paragraph, but then you get to the seemingly silly stuff.

Read this:   "Employees are not to leave their designated work areas before, during or after their shifts,"

They can't "leave....after their shifts."   So after their shift is over, they have to remain in their designated work area and can't go home?

And how about this one:   "...continuing, "If you need to leave your work area as part of your duties, check with your supervisor, who will escort you or will make other provisions."

Come on, this is a newspaper.  Reporters have to leave their designated work area.  Ditto photographers.  They have to go out in the field.   A super is going to go with them?    But then of course, it can be said that their "designated work area," is the locale of the story they  are working on at the moment, like the other morning a given reporter's work area would have been Hulett St.   Monday nights a certain reporter's work area is city council chambers.

Probably a disgruntled employee, who may not be getting laid off but has to pick up the slack

I agree, probably a scam. I know someone who works for the Gazette. I'll see what I can find out.

You can't believe everything you read on the internet.

"Holy crap!! Did she EAT Bob??"

Not everything on the Interweb is truth. Only a gullible fool would believe otherwise.
