Another DRASTIC reduction in the tax base in the city!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Final tax base last year was  $2,310,542,836

This year's tentative is $2,287,048,381

REDUCTION OF $23.5 MILLION.    See that DV , a WHOPPING DROP in value of the city's tax base of $23.5 MILLION.

So, DV, care to explain how all the wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayers' money on downtown is helping the city??????

Well????????

Oh, by the way, people, last year's roll had  total parcels of 20,470.   This year in the city there are 20,413 parcels.

Last year, the number exempt from taxes was 1,055

This year the number of exempt from taxes has INCREASED to 1,207

Yep, the dems SCREW THE TAXPAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see any cheerleader(s) for the plex and the city dems explain how yet another drop in the tax base and another increase in tax exempt properties is good for the residents and taxpayers and homeowners in the city.

Not "being" negative, just telling the UNDISPUTABLE, UNDENIABLE FACTS WITH EVIDENCE which HAPPEN to be a negative for the city which MUST be addressed.

Open your eyes

Acknowledge the negatives

Do something about negatives
-STOP the wild uncontrolled spending of tax money on downtown
-STOP the tax exemptions for the rich political cronies downtown
-Get rid of metroplex
- Vote OUT the dems on the council and vote IN council people, like Riggi, who will represent THE TAXPYAERS and NOT the rich downtown.

Trying to be positive, I see prospective buyers checking out some houses just on the market, I wish the owners good luck, and I hope for the best because some of these people look like they'd make good neighbors. Then I get word of another family leaving, houses "selling well" just means another family managed to unload theirs and escape. They weren't happy with what the schools offered. Our superintendent doesn't believe in catering to the more concerned parents, nor to the taxpayer.
NEWS FLASH - if the parents who care about their kids' schooling the most are happy, then I am too, because they will stay here and help pay for everything.

Well, DV?    You can't address THIS EVIDENCE that the wild uncontrolled spending of the taxpayers' money by your buddy dems on downtown is causing drastic reductions in the tax base, which is contrary to what you claim would happen.

Do you remember what YOU said?

and since most of you folks just cry about high taxes but aren't willing to actually do anything sensible -- like grow the tax base through economic development

So tell us DV, are you man enough to comment on what is REALLY happening to the tax base through this so called economic development.

Well????

Stockton overdid the economic development thing too, and they had a lot more going for that city than we do here. Look what happened.

So if the tax base shrinks 1% and the budget goes up 2% to 3% that leads to a nice couple of hundred dollar tax increase for the average homeowner.

Get out now before it gets worse. Know this couple who have lived in the City for years. For ten years they have been waiting "for the right time" to sell. Taxes have doubled while resale values keep falling.
Saratoga County is even better than Colonie.

How much is the County sueing the City for the back due taxes going to cost all of us?

Wonder how the Moody's analysts took the story.  Sure they put the article in their folder for the next downgrade of our debt.

I thought this was about the big property tax decrease when the County Home goes on budget-lol. We don't need no privatization. That's for those terrible REP counties like Albany to explore.

Oh goodness no, Benny.

Actually this thread was started to announce the big huge reduction in the city's tax base that occurred in the past year, using the assessment roll.

$23 million reduction.

All because of the city/co dems and plex spending money on downtown.  It PROVES that the residents of the city are NOT, and I repeat NOT getting a return on their "investment,"   well, not getting a return after the government and plex STEALS their money.

It is duly noted that NO ONE, not ONE person, has posted here to say that the dem spending on downtown has increased the tax base.

NO ONE ................. NOT ONE person is has the BALLS enough to post a comment here to claim the city IS in a renaissance AND provide EVIDENCE  to support such a comment (e.g., using the home values, tax base --official numbers, tax bills, fees, sales, ability to sell a house, etc).

So, admittedly, you have proven your point beyond a reasonable doubt!  The second part of the equation is, What options are available to the homeowners in the City?  If they can't sell their home, and they need the equity to move, then they are trapped.  If the illegal taxation without representation, or at least under the false pretense of economic development via Metrograft, absent a federal investigation (much like what is occurring in the State Legislature), how do the tax rates get realigned so it is equitable?  Everyone in the City in mass has to grieve their taxes, and those in the know need to publish some type of brochure to guide them how to do it successfully!

The city of Schenectady needs to go bankrupt, have the state appoint someone that can see the problems that have been created by years of mismanagement, and last, take a look at the pension/health-care benefits that the city can no longer pay. All the city administrators are afraid to do what has to be done for the city to survive so someone from the outside has to be brought in to make the tough choices. There's no easy fix to something that has taken many years to create due to promises made to friends and family to play in the political arena.
