If anyone has any information about Mohawkville, Engine Hill, Athen's Junction
or Factoryville, please reply. All were former Hamlets along with Coldbrook that
made up Rotterdam during the late 1800s and into the next century. Very little
remains about these neighborhoods.

I have some notes and some images with some information below.

Centre Street apparently was what is now Broadway and went up Crane St to
Mohawkville.

Henry M. Crane was a  memberof the New York State Assembly.

Henry M. Crane was Rotterdam Town Supervisor from 1857 - 1858.

Mohawkville Manor is near McKinley Ave, Gladstone St and Bryan Ave.

Mohawkville School was at the corner of Altamont Ave and Crane St.

Norfolk Ave listed on the unfound as of yet, Map of Mohawkville.

Athens Junction (Getman’s), and Mohawkville were quiet, pleasant settlements
in the southeastern part of town.

Peter Cristler was the first superintendant of one of Crane's factories.

It looks as though Mt.Pleasant was formerly Engine Hill

Athen's Junction became Carman.

I haven't placed Van Eppsville yet.

From: Rotterdam NY A Pictorial History Commemorating Our Nations Bicentennial - Edited and Produced by J. Marvin Craig and John P. Papp

Van Epsville was a small collection of buildings located at the foot of the Campbell Ave. bluffs and at the rear of present General Electric Company buildings along the old road that that followed the Erie Canal....

This is an excellent source, but it is out of print and hard to find. I received it as well as the book that the Schenectady County Historical Society printed as Christmas gifts last year.

I just posted an excerpt from the book. If I have some time later today, I'll post the entire description.

Are you familiar with Poutre Pond and where it was located?

Here is a map from 1866. It shows Mrs Van Epps on the flats, the Schermerhorn and Campbells
above it where Schermerhorn Rd now is. The Schermerhorn and Campbells later merged when
David Schermerhorn took the name Campbell as a condition of inheritance from Mrs Campbell.
The map shows a race course. When I was a kid, the old people called the Riverview GE the race
track. Now it's called Von Roll. It's hard to tell what's what because they didn't put in street names.

Quoted from Libertarian4life

Engine Hill is now known as Mont Pleasant.  Mont Pleasant, Bellevue and Woodlawn used to belong to the Town of Rotterdam.

Engine Hill/Mont Pleasant has some fascinating history.  Used to be dotted with farms including the farm owned by my great-grandfather's sister and her husband as well as a farm owned by another one of their relatives.

Ya notice he never talks about what he nor his parents owned.

That is interesting since it has gone from working farm to welfare plantation in a few short decades. Ahhhhhhh- the splendor of "urban" living and lifestyle!
