SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A fire destroyed the entire top floor of a building on Third Avenue in Schenectady. It broke out a little after 7 p.m. Saturday.
Fire officials said there was heavy smoke and fire on the second floor when they arrived.
They said the first floor occupant alerted officials to the fire when she heard pops and saw smoke. That person was able to get out of the building safely.
Firefighters said it took them about an hour to get the fire under control.
The cause is still under investigation.
