SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady County Sheriff Dominic Dagostino has been reviewing the newly passed NY SAFE Act in recent weeks according to a statement released Monday.
Dagostino was among 52 Sheriffs from across NYS who participated in a conference to further consider the law and formulate the formal position of the NYS Sheriffs' Association.
Dagostino says he has found a number of provisions within the NY SAFE Act that will help law enforcement keep our citizens safe. However, the sheriff has concerns about several provisions within the legislation that he feels should be revisited.
Above is a four page position statement from the NYS Sheriffs' Association that clearly outlines the Sheriff's position on which provisions should be revisited by the governor and the NYS legislature.
40 Upstate Counties have already voted AGAINST the unsafe act. Except Schenectady County. Albany County Sheriff is against this mess. Hope that DD soon follows suit. The silence from our County "leadership" on this is deafening.
Politics shouldn't determine law. Local elected officials have a duty to us, not to Cuomo. What a wimp.
Local elected law enforcement officials have a duty uphold the law, not to Cuomo or their personal political agenda.

It's a bad law, whether you "like" guns or not, Cuomo acted like a dictator with powers HE DOES NOT HAVE, and did not even think it through as far asramifications for law enforcement or his buddy one percenters in the entertainment industry. Other law enforcement officials have not had a problem pointing out that this BAD LAW interferes with their ability to perform their LEGAL DUTIES. Our machine loyal sheriff gets all mealy mouthed because Cuomo is a Democrat. We are not a dictatorship here in New York, YET. Hitler was very popular with the Germans, early on.

there's only so long a house of cards can be propped up by being upheld.....

And by him all things subsist - Or are sustained; see the notes at Hebrews 1:3. The meaning is, that they are kept in the present state; their existence, order, and arrangement are continued by his power. If unsupported by him, they would fall into disorder, or sink back to nothing. If this be the proper interpretation, then it is the ascription to Christ of infinite power - for nothing less could be sufficient to uphold the universe; and of infinite wisdom - for this is needed to preserve the harmonious action of the suns and systems of which it is composed. None could do this but one who is divine; and hence we see the reason why he is represented as the image of the invisible God. He is the great and glorious and everactive agent by whom the perfections of God are made known.

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Schenectady County legislators will ask state leaders to revisit the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, but refused to endorse the message of repeal urged by dozens of residents at a standing-room-only meeting Tuesday.
A full story on the vote can be found HERE.
The Legislature soundly adopted a resolution calling on the state Senate and Assembly to conduct public hearings in regions throughout New York aimed at improving the law passed earlier this year and set to take effect this spring. Democrat Brian Gordon and Republican James Buhrmaster were the only two among the 13 legislators present to vote against the resolution, though for opposite reasons.
Gordon argued the so-called New York SAFE Act is fine in its entirety, citing statistics that show a decrease in gun-related deaths in those states with the strongest laws. Buhrmaster, the Legislature’s minority leader, said Schenectady County should send a message of repeal to Albany in protest of the shadowy manner in which the law was passed.
The vote followed roughly two hours of comments from opponents of the law, many of them claiming it impinges on rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. Many of the more than three dozen speakers urged legislators to take up Buhrmaster’s call for a resolution endorsing repeal, saying that dozens of other

we are having 'public hearings' AFTER the bill was rammed thru??? What the hell was cuomo so afraid of? He showed NO concern on public opinion whatsoever! He should have allowed each entity in the state to have meeting be them for or against this bill. Just another obama..........ram it down the people's throats and chip away at our personal liberties!!

Sale of ammunition. The new law imposes several new provisions regarding how, and from whom, ammunition can be lawfully purchased. The law should be clarified about the use of the Internet as a vehicle for these sales, out‐of ‐state sales to New York residents, and other issues. Businesses have said that they do not understand the new provisions and are concerned that they will have to cease operations. • Law enforcement exemptions must be clarified. The new law has many provisions that might apply to law enforcement officers and there has been much confusion about whether existing law enforcement exemptions continue to apply. We understand that the Governor and Legislature have already agreed to review and modify these provisions where necessary, and the Sheriffs want to be part of the discussion to make the changes effective. Additionally, the exemptions should apply to retired police and peace officers, and to others in the employ of the Sheriff and other police agencies who perform security duties at public facilities and events.
Law enforcement wants to be exempt??

Gordon gets endorsed by the so-called "conservative" party which shows what a laughable lie they are.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Nope, a sheriff is elected. If what you are saying was the case then sheriffs would have no political affiliation. If a sheriff runs and says they will not commit resources to enforce the SAFE Act, they are well within their rights. They determine where resources are allocated.
A town or city council could also direct their police to not actively enforce the SAFE Act.
Q. Some have said that the state’s new gun law was passed in haste, without enough time for careful review or to gage whether or not there was public support for the new law. They point to the fact that the Governor and Legislature have already admitted that corrections to the new law need to be enacted. Supporters say the law was long overdue and was needed. Which of the following two statements comes closest to your opinion: The law was rushed through without adequately considering public opinion and the effect the law would have, OR the law was needed and while passed quickly was the right thing to do.
RUSHED THROUGH 48% RIGHT THING TO DO 49% DON’T KNOW/NO OPINION 2%
