I feel bad for James Barba.  Philip is not even in the same league.

Can't believe this is for real.

Come on

First, he runs an alleged not-for-profit so how can a "for-profit" business organization honor him?

And for what?   Does he bring in new business?   That is, business that do NOT take from the taxpayers?    NO

Does he/Proctors bring in business that result in increases to the city's tax base?    NO

Does he pay taxes?   NO

Does he/Proctors do anything to increase the tax base in the city?     NO

Does he/Proctors do anything to make the city a desirable place for people to buy homes and live?    NO    (as has been PROVEN by the DRASTIC REDUCTION in homes that sell)

Does he/Proctors do anything to help home values increase?     NO

Does he/Proctors help alleviate the enormous tax burden on the residents of the city?    NO

So WHAT is he being honored for?

The chamber should provide documentation to show how he has helped the city improve and become a more livable city in return for the tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Did he STEAL from the homeowners in the city and county?    YES

Now let's see the resident board cheerleader who always cheers for the dems and Proctors, let's see HIM explain HOW Morris/Proctors have helped the residents of the city.   ROFL

Maybe the Chamber is unaware that every Proctors ticket is not allowed to be taxed and that all that money is going right back into Morris' bloated pocket. That's so he can afford to pay failed fiscal DEMS $100K salaries, failing Council members salaries, an aged former-mayor's salary.....the list is endless....

Proctors is no benefit to the city?  Not sure I agree with that.

Understand the frustration about the taxes but Proctors does benefit the City in some ways.

Agreed but the jury is out if it makes up for the massive gifts the county (and to a lesser extent the city) has given Proctor's.

And just the lunacy of continually celebrating the mediocre performance of Proctor's, while the rest of the city burns, and they pay no taxes...  Just a drain on county expenses.

It is sickening to drive up Crane St and remember how it was just 20 years ago, yet Morris is making massive amounts of money, as does his cronies within Proctors, and they continue to suck the taxpayers dry.

Actually the jury isn't out...  The incompetents celebrate Proctor's as a massive success, yet exploding taxes in the rest of the city make it clear, the money downtown has been wasted.

What's the surprise? Morris goes around picking up awards for taking commercial properties of the City tax rolls and refuses to repay ANTHING to oppressed County taxpayers. Then they wonder why tax revenues keep imploding. Already received a Patroon. But its Union College that pays a PILOT that's the real bad guy. The jury is in. Proctor's is a taxpayer blackhole and Morris should be returned to Jamestown on a rail. The award for most self serving political pig goes to...Who else?

Is OSM carrying the award ceremony live? lol

Think Jack did clear that up Visitor. With the massive amounts of grants to refurbish a gold ceiling, as taxpayers...is it worth it?

Again, grants are coming in from all over the place for Proctors, the Plex is on speed dial, ticket sales are totally tax-exempt, Proctors is a non-profit & charity AND...wait for it....the police are used gratis for their services during performances.

Don't know why the police would render services to Proctors when the department gets absolutely nothing back from that entity.

Maybe that million dollar gold ceiling money could have been better served getting those 10 police vehicles needed?

MC1 has listed a number of points that anyone is free to refute. No one ever does, in any tangible way. I've never been able to find any real numbers myself, and I've looked. Whenever the benefits are mentioned in the press, it's always some vague opinion or guess masquerading as fact. Senders hasit right, it's "feel-good politics".

I have a feeling that there is trouble brewing down at Proctor's. He's trying to stave it off, hiring that Ismat person, but smoke and mirrors can only work for so long. This is just a feeling I have, not proven fact.

BTW, Proctor's was providing whatever benefit it provides way before anyone ever heard of Mr. Morris. This is what is bothering me, and the other critics, I believe. He (Morris) is getting credit for a bunch of accomplishments that don't exist, at great cost to the residents.

i've said it before and i'll say it again..............proctors HAS to exist for the other businesses to exist!! They make most of their revenue when there is a 'function' going on at 'tax paid' procors.

But let's not forget that almost ALL of these businesses, altho not doing 'great'...........can pocket the profits they DO make, since they pay little to no taxes!!

It's a liberal's vicious circle jerk......they take from the residents and give to 'their choice of family and friends'. These businesses are being propped up and are existing solely by the overburdened tax payer!!!

The fact of the matter is..........it is a FALSE sense of a 'private sector' growing economy!!

The only thing that is 'real' is that the residential sections are crumbling,(that spills over to the entire county) home values are plumeting,  crime is rampant, the school district is substandard and it is over run with drug dealer/addicts! FACT!! (Just ask any government worker why they won't MOVE to the city...DUH)
