New study finds 99.999% certainty humans are causing global warming
Quoted Text
There is less than 1 chance in 100,000 that global average temperature over the past 60 years would have been as high without human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, our new research shows.
Published in the journal Climate Risk Management today, our research is the first to quantify the probability of historical changes in global temperatures and examines the links to greenhouse gas emissions using rigorous statistical techniques.
Our new CSIRO work provides an objective assessment linking global temperature increases to human activity, which points to a close to certain probability exceeding 99.999%.

What is causing it really doesn't matter, it's what we can do about it....realistically.. and answer is , not much... Getting the world to act as one for any cause has rarely worked, and hoping market forces cause change doesn't work either. http://time.com/money/3269068/hybrid-electric-cars-sales-nissan-leaf-tesla/What we really should be doing instead of wringing our hands to place blame or trying to stop it, is to adapt to the change. I might be for carbon taxes if it went for adapting to climate change, but I fear it's a money grab more than anything else For starters, we should take a hard look at our coastal cities and make some hard choices on allowing further development of ANY kind in low lying areas. |

Much has been written on the "tipping point" of which any actions would be futile. I can only hope we are not now beyond that point. It would seem that there are some corrections that could be relatively easy and inexpensive, others that are more costly and others prohibitively expensive. The issue does seem too big to ever correct. I remember when cleaning up our streams and rivers was proposed. There are those who called it impossible and too expensive. I remember when I was a kid, seeing the locks on the Mohawk River clogged with garbage, oil, sewage etc. I even saw a half rotted calf float by, as many along the river bank used the river as a waste dump. To make this near impossible task happen, we need to start now. |

We did a great job cleaning up the Mohawk... but this problem is worldwide...I have friends that routinely travel to China and India for a company I used to work for... you would not believe how bad things are there in an environmental sense... It makes LA look like Denali national park... |

Much of Asia is a toxic waste dump... but so was a lot of the USA. Remember Love Canal? As Asia prospers, it will hopefully start cleaning up it's mess too. |

OF COURSE THERE IS CLIMATE CHANGE.....but we only live about 100years each and we really don't care about stuff that we can't change....the force, power, effect of the universe on Earth is much bigger than us....until another life form shows up to tell us differently...we are alone (but I don't think so ) |

This past August was the warmest since records began in 1881, according to new data released by NASA. The latest readings continue a series of record or near-record breaking months. May of this year was also the warmest in recorded history. |

More than 400,000 people turned out for the People's Climate March in New York City on Sunday, just days before many of the world's leaders are expected to debate environmental action at the United Nations climate summit. |

Former Obama Official: Climate Change Not 'Settled' Science
Sunday, 21 Sep 2014 06:11 PM
By Sandy Fitzgerald A former high-ranking Obama administration official says climate science and the implications of global warming are not "settled," insisting such claims are "misguided" and stifle debate on the matter.
Writing a Page One story in the Wall Street Journal Weekend Review section, Dr. Steven Koonin argues that group think among experts has been inhibiting "the scientific and policy discussions that we need to have about our climate future."
Koonin, who served at the Energy Department as President Obama’s undersecretary for science in the Energy Department, is director of the Center for Urban Science and Progress at New York University.
Koonin’s position strikes a blow against climate change activists as People’s Climate March organized demonstrations at more than 2,000 locations worldwide.
In New York, tens of thousands participated in the demonstration demanding urgent steps against carbon emissions as the United Nation’s General Assembly opened.
"We often hear that there is a 'scientific consensus' about climate change," writes Koonan. "But as far as the computer models go, there isn't a useful consensus at the level of detail relevant to assessing human influences." |
