I never intended to go back there because I was concerned that they were under-financed and that did not bode well for great restaurant operations (e.g, safe, fresh food)

However a couple friends wanted to go there for restaurant week...

And I was pretty impressed overall.

The food was good.  I'm not sure if the cheesecake was homemade or purchased frozen to be honest - but other than that was pretty darn happy.

The waiter was fantastic - one of the best waiters I've ever had.

I'd go back, and recommend others try it.

It was pretty packed as 7PM approached, later as well.

I have been there several times since it reopened.  It is certainly in the top 3  best restaurants in Schenectady County --- the other being my family's favorite eatery in Scotia and the other our favorite eatery in the western half of the county.

Leave it to you to fill your face and support someone who sponges off the taxpayer.  I trust you DO know he still owes taxes, a five figure number.   I suppose you don't even want to see the official evidence from the statey, huh?   Too chicken to see the truth

By the way, have you got any proof of your claim that the county taxes are the lowest in 50 years?    How come you refuse to provide any evidence.   Obviously because it's one big fat lie!      Of course you can't prove it because you know nothing about taxes anyway.

Just like you won't provide any proof of a renaissance you claim exists, houses won't sell in the city, drastic increase in the number of homes put up for sale, and super massive reduction in median sale prices.

Hey, DV, if there's there really is a renaissance in the city, and since median sales prices of house in the city is less than $60,000 now, and interest rates are at historic lows, care to tell us why you STILL aren't buying a house in the city???????

I'm not excited about their back taxes either - but that can only go so long before they are shut down like Luigi's.

Saying it is one of the three best restaurants in Schenectady county is a stretch, but it is quite decent, and with time hopefully they can make good on their taxes.

Unlike Appertivo where I went the night before - whose Restaurant Week dessert, Chocolate Mouse, was like about the size of maybe 1/3 - 1/2 cup...  Dolche Vita gave full size everything.  Hell the pasta side dish from the chicken parm was in a small bowl but it was overflowing to the point of it was a full meal for me the next day.

The interior, for all their cash problems in opening, turned out to be quite nicely done.

I am judging them (and others) based on the total experience -- food, service, atmosphere, consistency in performance and , of course, whether they satisfy the diverse tastes/"likings" of my extended family (that means that the place has to satisfy people ranging in age from 6 to in their 80's).

Personally, I am not impressed with Appertivo or any of the Mazzone restaurants --- very inconsistent in quality of food and service -- imho .. they (like a lot of restaurants) do NOT live up to their hype.

BTW -- In general, my family and I dislike chain restaurants and prefer locally owned restaurants.

i agree with you on the large portions at Dolce Vita--- and since I only eat moderately .. I can usually make at least a couple meals with the leftovers.

BTW.  Quite obvious you need multiple chaperones every place you go; only children need a chaperone, but then, adult men don't live with two "mommies," adult men live in their own house or apartment.

BTW, you're family and extended family, and extended family of extended family, guess they can't speak for themselves.

and since I only eat moderately .. .

ROFLOAO.    Yeah, you look it.    Lies, just like the lies about the renaissance, just like the lies about the county taxes being lowest in 50 years

Just comparing wine lists and menus, (and not having been to either place yet), I have to say Appertivo has a distinct advantage.
I will be anxious to try both, but I think I know which will come out on top.
I will be sure to eat "moderately"....and I'll be careful not to get any sauce on my one and only shorter than a grown man's tie!!!!

oops.... .....dolce vita.

on the other hand, appertivo, which we have never went to.....folks say it isn't really a 'dinner' place to go. Very nice....but limited menu and small 'appitizer like' food.....and a bit pricey.... again...no personal experience here.

Dolce vita is a pick up joint first.  Been there three times.. Sauce was not so great and the ambiance is the 70's for sure.  Can't comment on any of the meat dishes since I don't eat meat out.  The manicotti was not their's--frozen probably from Capiello's which is ok.  Dessert was a mystery.  Actually the bar was a mystery.  No matter what mixed drink the couple with us asked for, they didn't have it.  Our friend's wife ended up with wine.

Yup, APPERTIVO is a BISTRO
Quoted Text
Piattini Comes to Downtown Schenectady.
Italian for "small plates", Aperitivo Bistro serves the ultimate Piattini selections - from the traditional fried calamari to stuffed artichoke hearts and sushi. Also serving specialty pizzas, fabulous pasta dishes and larger plate selections, come and enjoy the variety of flavors Aperitivo Bistro has to offer.

Advertised as smaller portions....probably why our resident planning hack doesn't give it high marks!!!!
