$15/hour doesn't afford a family of 4 or a single mom with 2 kids respectable living....

$9/hour minimum wage will just hide the lack of straw for the bricks.....

but the corporate welfare and fraud will continue

spartacus isn't happy

We're disguising the fact that wages have been going down for years now by handing out welfare money to these moms. Why not require the dads to support their own children? That would mean that the dads would have to get jobs, and there aren't enough of those to go around. What is Obama doing about that, after four years in office? He wants to legitimize those who broke the law over legal immigrants, and now he wants to provide free daycare ("quality preschool") in hopes that some of these freeloaders will voluntarily go to work.
I think that if fathers had to support their kids you would see fewer situations like the one on Eastern Avenue with the young woman with two babies who died of "natural causes" and her kids were on their own for more than a day. A woman with two babies, alone, too sick to care for them, in a house where a parolee murderer also lived. Doesn't anyone else think that the lure of free government money played a role in this young woman's atrociously bad decisions? We've surplussed a lot of inconvenient people and have been paying them to keep them quiet. Now we have young women who don't know anything better believing this is a viable lifestyle choice, having as many kids as you can with as many different men as you can find. No one blames the dads though. Just the mothers.

MadamX: I beg your pardon...but there ARE 2 sides to this story, unfortunately Box cheerleads on 1 side for access I suppose.
just because a woman births offspring doesn't make that woman a mom, and just because a man dumps some seed that
is effectual doesn't make that man a dad.....

mandatory abortion if dad is not proved....because that IS the next step....hell, forget the abortion, birth the human and
dump it into the river, maybe the dad would jump in to save it....

of course BOTH sides are to blame here as is our conscience relieving system called WIC....

I work with women who enjoy having babies, being revered by their offspring and bad mouthing baby daddy and lining up
like cattle at the feeding trough set before them called welfare/WIC....

PS some of these moms are mean/matriarchal crazy bitche$.....and their offspring can't wait to get the hell out, daddy or no
daddy....

it IS one of the at leasts we have created....

No, I agree with you senders, this is a bad situation, made worse by government intervention, I think. Because when you start handing out Cash for Kids you get the unintended consequence of people jumping on the bandwagon who would not have landed there without an incentive. I see politicians on one side ranting on about single mothers and on the other side they try to demonize those who don't want to pay for other people's kids, but in both cases they seem to try to pretend that their are all these women who managed to have children all by themselves. Blame her or exalt her, what about the other parent? How is there any excuse for a man not supporting his children? If one doesn't want to be a father, who cares? That should've been something that was thought about beforehand.
Government involvement in employment issues? I think this is an area that is at least as important as military intervention all over the place. Large segments of our society have collapsed and we keep pretending nothing is happening.
