Did it occur to anyone that it was time to close up shop???/    to RETIRE ???   I would think that is why.....when it's time it;s time........

Kudos to Mr. James' through the years.......great job....have a good enjoyable retirement.....and stay healthy

I don't think he's even old enough to be a retiree in the public sector.

He doesn't want to retire, he said in the paper he wants to stay open, but, we all see what's happening, long time good taxpaying business is forced to close because he's not one of the dem cronies, he's not a billionaire like Paul Mitchell who probably lavishes money on gillen, mcc, etc in return for not having to pay taxes, plus Mitchel gets tons of government money from tuition financial aid programs.

Dems allegedly brought people downtown, but even all those high paid state employees will NOT conduct their own personal business downtown, get done with the work day and flee.

And see, after we have provided the EVIDENCE that a long time taxpaying business WANTS to stay in business, and the EVIDENCE that the taxpayer money thrown at downtown is NOT providing business for downtown, DV does not return here and answer the question of where are all those downtown people that 10 years of millions upon millions of tax dollars have NOT brought people to downtown,  Ten years of wild dem spending and tell us dV will you EVER DARE to answer the question of what has happened to home values, what has happened to the tax base.

Why DV won't you state what has happened to the city's tax base after all the millions of tax dollar spent on downtown,   So dV, tell us what has happened to the tax base.   Well, can you answer that?????

DV will NEVER state the effects on the city and it's residents with all the wild spending on downtown, he REFUSES to addres the issue at all, just spews babble and lies NEVER a teeny weeny shred of evidence does he ever provide.

So how does it make sense to spend money to bring business downtown when the businesses already there are leaving? It's like the cable and phone companies offering special deals to new customers only and cities recruiting new residents with enticements not available to long time residents (Schenectady)etc. It should be obvious by now that they only want particular people to get in on the gravy train.
BTW, Devon Blake salon was downtown in an old Canal Square space for a time. They got booted in favor of some computer business that never materialized as far as I know. They did discuss finding another place so he could stay downtown with the Mayor's office, I'm told. I think they might have gotten a friendly reminder about not letting the door hit one's posterior on the way out, but that is unconfirmed. Pizza King, a popular stalwart of downtown, remember him? He had to fight to stay in business even with many, many appreciative customers.
Downtown is a racket. They are still trying to build a shiny new replacement city at taxpayer expense, with new, naive residents who don't question anything and believe they are "saving" the city.
If the Stockade neighborhood hadn't been allowed to become a station on the road to Hell that salon would still have customers. That goes for Mont Pleasant as well, except it isn't on the way to Hell any longer, it is already there.
Notice McCheese blames his problems on "having to provide infrastructure to a city built for 90,000" but they are still hellbent on establishing that far flung residential outpost where ALCO was? BS actually TURNED AWAY a business that wanted to go in there. Yet he blamed problems on Schenectady's "high-density" housing. Hey folks, cities are "high-density". Look at Brooklyn. People are moving IN every day. High taxes and lousy to non-existent services are what is destroying this place. You can't throw money around to fix that.

Very well stated on many, many levels!!

Sad that people actually in the economic development field are touting Downtown as some sort of Renaissance when in reality they have created one of the most massive anti-capitalistic environments in all of Upstate NY.

There is not a significant job creation which can even begin to explain where hundreds of millions of dollars have gone in Schenectady County (last total during McCheesy campaign....7,500 jobs created yet over 5,000 were lost in the County). Businesses downtown are fully government funded and the connected few are the 'haves' while the lifelong businessesowners are the 'have nots'.

It's called corruption folks. The names on the Plex checks are all the same. Name any other large grocery store chain in the City that isn't Golub owned.

The Mr James salon was not apparently considered a protected member of La Famiglia.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

4 buildings away from the last pizza place that failed.

Leandro's Pizza in the old Del Gros building at Broadway and Vischer has also closed and is empty.

in 7 short years the Democrats the Democrats have DROPPED TAX RATES TO THE LOWEST POINT SINCE THE 1950's and  the entire county is in an economic Renaissance -- including Downtown.

THOSE ARE THE FACTS --- and no amount of screeching and insults … can diminish the RECORD OF POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS BROUGHT TO THE COUNTY BY  DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP.

And THE FACT IS, the TRUTH is, DV will NEVER provide one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE to support his statement above.

Yet ANOTHER TAXPAYING businesss closes downtown, yet ANOTHER REDUCTION in the city's tax base and DV cannot provide one teeny weeny shred of evidence to contradict THE FACTS, THE TRUTH -- that the Democrats have caused DRASTIC REDUCTIONS in the tax base, have caused DRASTIC REDUCTIONS in home values, have caused people to put their homes up for sale in huge numbers and it takes forever for homes to sell.

But the best proof of the MASSIVE FAILURE is that DV REFUSES to move into the city

the METROPLEX/GILLEN could have offered them a ringside position in the center city building....yes?

the METROPLEX/GILLEN picks the business winners and losers....there is NO level playing field for independent businesses.

I predict that Rudnicks will be following suit soon....but i predict that they will just move to a better location. They will do great no matter where they go!!!

Exactly! Here's McCheese's biggest problem he can't blame Stratton. They are both part of the problem. High tax DEMS in bed with the public unions and totally incapable of  balancing a check book. Here's
another one Stratton cheered when Kem Cleaners folded and said Erie Blvd. needed more parking. For What? The old abandoned Trustco HQ that the DEM morons paid top dollar for? These idiots couldn't
survive a day in basic training. How bad is it? The Church by City Hall sits with a For Sale Sign like every other business/building on lower Franklin Street. Fat Morris, McCheese and Death Ray should be tarred andfeathered.
