SCHENECTADY — Mayor Gary McCarthy stuck with his message concerning the importance of pushing homeownership during his State of the City address Monday night, saying Schenectady is "looking for urban pioneers" to assist in turning the Electric City around.

Yah, that small surplus thing is a big crock.  Take out the one time Income items like the Squeeze on the delinquent taxes and the city is bleeding.  They were very slick in the movement of 2012 expenses into 2013.  Big shell game.

Due to the dire state of affairs in this City, get Center City to pay City and school taxes along with...Paul Mitchell School, Bombers, Villa Italia, Aperitivo, Marcellas...all the folks who keep "renewing" their tax evasion tactics with the Plex.

Cap the exemptions, stop interest free Plex loans and let's get the City back in fiscal shape!!!

Schenectady needs people to move here who care about the city, according to the woman who blogs about it for the TU. That's why some preferred developer should take our money while we lose our homes, because potential new residents will care about the place we already live in more than we do.
McCheese you idiot! Stop spending money on downtown! Do your job! enforce the laws we already have! There are people who want to buy houses here,IT's THE DAMN TAXES WE HAVE TO PAY OUT TO YOUR ARROGANT CITY EMPLOYEES WHO REFUSE TO LIVE HERE, PUBLICLY REFUSE, WHICH ARE CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS! Apartment dwellers will not fix the schools or the deteriorating housing stock! Stop screwing the homeowners in favor of outsiders! Stop screwing Schenectady's remaining non-slumlord landlords in favor of absentee developers!

That 2 unit on Moynston Street was assessed at $100,000.  Enough said.  The assessors head was up their aZZ and they messed up alot and then did nothing to correct the messups.  The word is out that Schenectady is a hostile environment to do business for any and all who are not connected.  

That word is definitely out there! That's a fact! Because legitimate businesspeople who want to stay in business have to know the difference between reality and bs propaganda in the local rag. I feel bad for some of the dupes who might let themselves be talked into purchasing an overpriced, overtaxed house through the mayor's idiotic and irresponsible program. If these houses were a good deal, you wouldn't need a program to buy them.

Without Metrograft the few remaining businesses downtown would fold. Look around City Hall. Beautiful building completely surrounded by desolation. Business after business closed on Jay/Franklin Streets. But
this is moron "renaissance"? None dare call it taxpayer ripoff-socialism and nepotism.
