SCHENECTADY — The male residential program in the city's old YMCA building at 13 State St. will move to a renovated factory next to the county social services department on Broadway.
The fate of the YMCA program, which provides shelter to chronically homeless people, was up in the air since 2010 when the YMCA's fitness facility moved to the Center City building.
Galesi Group, which helmed the Center City renovation, will redevelop the factory at 845 Broadway into 155 efficiency apartments for the homeless program, the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority announced Monday. The $25 million project receives $11 million in low-income housing tax credits from New York State Homes and Community Renewal.
Metroplex said it would seek to redevelop the YMCA building, which dates back to the 1920s and greets entrants into the city from Scotia and Interstate 890.

What genius decided lower Broadway was the new dumping ground for the city?
The welfare building, the homeless, the porn store, the police bar, a dozen sex offenders?
We must keep the homeless away from the downtown facade at all costs. They will probably be treated better by the new neighbors, than by the Galesi cronies.
well, the phrase "sh!t rolls downhill" certainly fits!

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
[b][size=14]... Broadway was the new dumping ground for the city?
...
Just think, they are moving closer to DV!!!! Inch by inch. Project by project. Tax dollar by tax dollar.

Now don't forget, the DEMS in the city and county and plex, (along with unbridled support of DV) will increase the taxes on the homeowners, putting more in jeopardy of losing their homes, just make Galesi even richer. I mean really, Galesis simply cannot afford to pay taxes to the city because while homeowners in the city struggle to replace an aging furnace, while homeowners struggle to pay the fines from code violations because they haven't had the money to paint their house, Galesi is suffering in his poor accomodations (far far far away from Schenectady!):
Just more EVIDENCE of how politically CORRUPT the city is, courtesy of the dems, the former mayor full of BS, and that savage that used to run the county legis!

it's called...called....you know that big big word.....oh wait it's almost there....it's only used when rich folks do it... PHILANTHROPY OR STEALING.....it's a balm to their conscience
THE REST OF US SCHMUCKS JUST DONATE.......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS

EXACTLY! The genius is the DEM crapo-former blogger here. Have they fixed the collapsed facade at DSS YET? Stockade's gain is Bellevue's loss. Let's see if the brain dead neighborhood "leaders" in Bellevue welcome this as they did DSS. Judy DAG made a fool out of herself with her stunad comments. This is to help one developer just like Erie, screw the County taxpayers and everyone else go to hell.

Wrong Benny, this isn't just the Stockades loss it's a $25 million dollar taxpayer loss!! You think Galesi is spending a dime on this project?? H*ll no! There's Plex, State, Fed and I'm sure County money is all going into this guy's silver lined pocket. Say, how much is the County renting this new piece of crap for? Another $20 million like next door?
So now Broadway has DSS, the homeless, a porno store...can we just put a stripper bar over there and complete the slum?????
Schenectady is drawing its own red line and creating the 'other side of the tracks' ...too bad they don't realize that every neighborhood is becoming the same!!!!

Per a recent Gazette article Galesi is now suing the Stratcher,Roth,Gilmore firm over the issue of the falling/misapplied stucco.

Nearly 100 years ago lower Broadway and Weaver St were considered the red light district, with whorehouses and gangsters-a-plenty.
