SCHENECTADY — Police are investigating the death of a young woman whose body was discovered late Thursday afternoon inside a building on Eastern Avenue.
Few details about the case including a cause of death or the identity of the woman were immediately available. But sources said the body was that of a woman in her early 20s.
Sgt. Matthew Dearing said in a news release that at approximately 17:54 officers were dispatched to 847 Eastern Ave. for a report of a female who was unresponsive. Upon arrival officers discovered the body inside the building.
The Schenectady Police Department's Detective Division and Evidence Technician Unit are currently on scene. An investigation is continuing.

SCHENECTADY — Authorities discovered the body of a young woman in her 20s Thursday evening after neighbors reported hearing her infant and toddler crying for a prolonged period of time.
Neighbors of the woman living in the second-floor rear apartment at 847 Eastern Ave. reported hearing the children crying throughout the evening on Wednesday and again Thursday. Police were alerted and arrived to find the woman around 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
Firefighters were observed carrying two children from the apartment. One appeared to be an infant; both were taken from the scene in an ambulance.
The building is the same one visited by police on Saturday to arrest a parolee who is reportedly a person of interest in the homicide of Mary Greco, a former nun found dead in her Stanford Street home on New Year’s Day. The man, who has not been identified by police, lived in a different apartment in the building and is not suspected of being connected to his now-deceased neighbor.
“It doesn’t appear to be related right now,” said Sgt. Matthew Dearing. “They were in totally separate apartments.”
Dearing declined to give details about the untimely death until the woman’s family can be notified. He said an autopsy is scheduled for today, but wouldn’t say whether the death is being considered suspicious.
Neighbors of the dead woman knew little about her other than that she moved into the house about five months ago, as did all the other tenants — the building had been vacant. They described her as quiet and said she gave birth to one of her daughters within the past three months.
One resident who declined to give her name said she heard the children crying for several days, but didn’t think to alert authorities because it was fairly commonplace. Standing across the street from the building, she shook her head.
“I’d been hearing them for two days,” she said. “For two days. I feel bad.”
Sueeny Batista, another tenant of the building, said she loaned a blanket to emergency responders to wrap the younger child. She last saw someone go into the apartment Tuesday.
“I didn’t pay no mind,” she said.
But between police arresting the parolee last weekend and word of the woman’s untimely death Thursday, Batista was left shaken. Pregnant herself, she doubted she could stay much longer at the apartment she’s lived in since September.
“I don’t feel safe,” she said with a sigh. “I’m not sleeping at all.”
Police investigators were canvassing the nearby residences throughout Thursday evening. The four-unit apartment building is less than a block away from the Eastern Avenue Deli & Grocery, where 41-year-old Laurel Teer was gunned down as she struggled with a would-be robber in 2009.
“There’s been a lot of stuff going on in the neighborhood lately,” Eastern Avenue resident Teresa Miller said.
SCHENECTADY Woman died of natural causes Children treated for dehydration BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter
The young woman found dead Thursday in an Eastern Avenue apartment after neighbors alerted police to her two crying children is believed to have died of natural causes, an official said Friday. Meanwhile, the woman’s two children were undergoing treatment at Albany Medical Center. Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney said he understood the children were suffering from dehydration, but that they would be OK. Police were officially calling the results of an autopsy of the young woman inconclusive as to her cause of death, with the coroner’s offi ce awaiting results of a toxicology screening. Carney, though, indicated the woman’s death did not appear to be an intentional act. “The preliminary indication from the autopsy is there are no signs of foul play whatsoever,” Carney said. “It appears to be a natural death.” Carney also said there were no obvious signs of alcohol or drugs. CHILDREN’S CRIES Police indicated Friday that the woman’s name would not be released. Police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said he did not have an estimate on how long she had been deceased. The children, police said, are now in the custody of Schenectady County Child Protective Services. Authorities discovered the woman’s body Thursday after an associate of the woman called police to express concern. A 20 year old dying of natural causes with two small children???
Not buying it Carney, you're not a coroner. Let's wait until the report is complete.
Seriously a horrible situation...who would let neighbors kids cry for days and not do something...like KNOCK ON THE DOOR!!!!!
Schenectady ...have you lost all humanity?!?!?
Exactly. McC and Gardner are probably looking to keep this hush hush, I mean, with yet another tax increase, the city deep in the red, giving out favors (Morris illegal STAR exemption), houses not selling that McC had to turn to a program to use felons to fix up houses, the first murder of the year taking place on the first day of the year, then a dead one found in the same building as the guy who lived who is "being questioned" in the Greco murder and it's the same neighborhood, it doesn't add up.
And given the secrets that the dems have kept, it's easy for them to keep the truth about this a secret. They pay off those who can make them look good.

My cousin 49 years old was found dead by his partner yesterday on Irving St. off Eastern Ave. NOT saying foul play but definetely suspicious in the wait to get medical help. Evidence tech and detective were called there. RIP Mike : (

My condolences. But this truly sad, all these deaths happening that might be or might not be as it said suspicious. Such happenings even if not suspicious just give another black mark on the city that is trying to come back.

Very sorry. rp. Interesting is that the police where there, the appearance by police seems like a repeat of the Eastern Ave story, but notice how nothing on the news. Yes, hopefully it's nothing of foul play of anything, but nothing being on the news seems more of a city trying not to look bad
