SCHENECTADY — In his role as public information officer, Lt. Mark McCracken has become the face of the Schenectady Police Department.

Last year, the veteran commander earned $171,423, more than doubling his $81,671 annual base salary to become the biggest money maker ever in the department's history, according to police officials and city records obtained by the Times Union through the Freedom of Information Act.

Where else but in a bankrupt City in the hole of $5 million can an officer make double or close to double his salary??

I'm sorry folks, but there needs to be a moratorium on ALL OVERTIME and ALL PAYMENTS over a persons base salary until the City gets its finances in order. If this is happening in the police department, it's happening in EVERY department. Mc Cheesy needs to find the cheeseballs to stop this insanity.

Stripping the carcass bare. The city is going down in flames, and these non-residents are riding it into the ground. Absolutely disgraceful.
No money for plowing properly.
The thing is, McCarthy knows how things should be done. He grew up here, when departments were still functional. Our snowplowing was better than other cities.
Here's a new idea - get rid of the mayor, all the budget people, all departments. Just have the cops go directly door to door periodically and take everycent the homeowner has. That should do it. Not every week - they have to leave something for the social worker who is running the schools. No matter how much money the schools get, it is never enough to do whatever it is they think they are supposed to be doing. Forget plowing. Then we won't haveto feel guilty that someone has to go outside when it is snowing because of us. We will still need something to eat, so maybe DSS can just sign up everyone in Schenectady automatically. Where will that money come from? Who cares. As long as it's free government money we won't look too closely. We have to give all our money to the cops so we can't be expected to pay for our own food.
But wait! What if Golub decides to work like the city does! Then we will have to fork over our electronic benefit card payments and not get any groceries in return! What will we do then?

So, how would you fill vacancies to get the job done?  The Department was short staffed to begin with - the Finance Department encouraged 20 sworn personnel to leave within a two year period.  And, a few others left for other employment opportunities.  Bottom line - there were not enough personnel to meet operational demands.

Open the job search to folks down in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The crime and taxes in Schenectady are on par with those locations.

Wait, people from the Bronx expect the City to plow and do other required maintenance duties...that won't work. Guess you'll have to open the job search in Camden (thanks Benny).
