No surprise there. Those who don't pay taxes (downtown) get cleaned well, paid for by financially struggling homeowners.
The streets in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live, no snow emergency, thus plows will weave around cars and the cold will result in piles of snow left 10 feet away from the curb when the cars leave the parking spots
Typical attitude of the dems in the city - screw the neighborhoods and the people that live in them

maybe we heard wrong......but we thought they mentioned schenectady's snow emergency on the news.....no?

Oh, the mayor tries to make people believe he's doing something to facilitate plowing, so he tells the news media that. the city has long had rules in effect for no more than a couple dozen streets, i.e., "priority streets" which means that no parking at all is allowed on those streets once 3 inches of snow has fallen. No parking until snow has been cleared.
There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the mayor to make any announcement to the media of that fact because all such streets have adequate signage specifically stating the rules.

Meanwhile they are plowing with loaders with plows so big that they tear up the pavement at ease. The ground shakes 10 times more than the large trucks.

The sad thing is that with the streets in the city once again plowed so terrible, few if any will go to the council meeting on Monday. Sad that people in the city have learned to just accept such poor service.

They don't ticket anyone because they don't know how to collect on a parking ticket yet! FACT

Re the Jan. 2 letter, “Where, oh where, were Sch’dy’s snowplows?” I think it’s important for city residents to understand that employees who plow the roads also live in the city and pay high taxes like everyone else. The fact, is with budget cuts, the city doesn’t have the manpower to keep up with a major storm. Also understand that while many of the residents were home enjoying the holiday season with their family members, these employees were at work doing their best. City employees are currently working under an expired contract and haven’t received any pay increases in the past two years. I agree that the condition of the streets would improve if Schenectady had alternate-side parking, like Albany. It would also help improve revenue if they instituted a ticket-and-tow snow emergency program. City employees would definitely be able to plow the streets better and would be more likely to keep up during a snowstorm if they weren’t dodging parked vehicles.
ADAM ARMOUR Schenectady The writer is vice president of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1037.
The city would HAVE money if they would start making King Phillip pay taxes on ALL those expensive, lavish banquets and theater gigs, and the rents from all the businesses he rents to.
The city would HAVE money if they stopped raping the homeowners with almost the highest taxes in the country.
The city would HAVE money if they stopped focusing on downtown and put 99% of their energy and money into the neighborhoods.
The city would HAVE money if they allowed downtown to form based on demand and private enterprise without taxpayer money.
Then the neighborhoods would be better which would improve the city which would increase the tax base which would lower taxes which would result in existsing homeowners staying here and more homeowners moving into the city which would increase the tax base even more and the would have even more money, and city services could be returned to what they were pre-mayor of BS and fees could be eliminated.
Of course, things I've been saying all along. How long did it take for me to tell about King Phillip ILLEGALLY having a second STAR exemption before the city finally did something about it? And it took some squeaky wheels to make enough noise about it before the city did something about it.
That Frederic Lee yesterday had a letter in the Gazette also about the poor snowplowing but he also said that he's been here only 12 years. Granted he talks about snow in the far western part of the state which is very different from here, but he also obviously knows that there actually is a very good ordinance on the city books, put into effect before the ignoramus dems took over (which is when snow plowing started getting cut and their political cronies were getting all the taxpayer money).
While referring to the Buffalo area, he writes "Lacking such ordinance in Schenectady," which proves the dems have NOT been providing vital services to the TAXPAYERS in the NEIGHBORHOODS, because the long time EXISTING ORDINANCE in the city, created under republican leadership, did facilitate excellent snow plowing in the city.
He does make reference to the thawing and refreezing, which is EVIDENCE that the dems do NOT know how to run the city, because why should the residents have their cars damaged while they pay for heated sidewalks for King Phillip and the rest of the dem cronies?
And today's letter references the alternate-side parking. The alternate side parking ordinance has been on the books since republican leadership AND it was put into effect under them as well! But the dems say "screw the taxpayers"
Yet another reason why the city is going to get worse by each passing year.

There is always somebody quick to knock the residents who just want city employees to DO THE JOB THEY ARE PAID TO DO. FACT - we already have parking rules in place, as they have been for decades. This is what was announced on the news, the rules about priority streets. ANOTHER FACT - there are more priority streets than were included in the announcement. ANOTHER FACT- other streets have have alternate parking rules already in place which have been flouted for decades. What TIB says about the parking ticket mess is another fact. Why do we continue to employ so many who have no idea what they are doing? Another issue with that letter - I saw dozens of people going to do their jobs that they get paid for in private industry over the Christmas season. I also have a friend whose husband gets up and goes out in all kinds of weather to plow state roads, holiday or not. Does she try to make me feel guilty about it? No, of course not! That is the job he chose and gets paid to do! I'm so sick of this! I am also sick of the morons who left their cars on the street during the storm because nobody forced them to move them! I'm sick of the selfish slobs who leave one car on the street because they don't want to put two cars in the driveway or they don't want to have to shovel out their cars when the snow falls off the roofs or only one car fits in the driveway but they have a GARAGE with crap in it! Guess what! You don't own the street in front of your house! It belongs to everybody and your damn car is solely YOUR responsibility! Sheesh. Another LIE is that the city has no money for plowing. We pay dearly for services we don't receive. If someone doesn't like his or her job with the city, finds it to hard to do - QUIT! don't write attacks on the residents for the paper.
What is COLA? A COLA payment is an adjustment, based on the cost-of-living index, which will permanently increase your retirement benefit. It is designed to address future inflation as it occurs. This Year’s COLA Increase The September 2012 COLA equals 1.4 percent, for a maximum annual increase of $252.00, or $21.00 per month before taxes. How COLA is Determined COLA payments equal 50 percent of the cost-of-living index and can be as much as 3 percent, but not less than 1 percent. COLA is calculated on the first $18,000 of your Single Life Allowance benefit or the actual amount of your benefit, if less. Once COLA payments begin, they continue automatically and you will receive an increase each September. Eligibility To begin receiving COLA payments, you must be: Age 62 or older and retired for five or more years; or Age 55 or older and retired for ten or more years (uniformed employees such as police officers, firefighters and correction officers); or A disability retiree for five years; or The spouse of a deceased retiree receiving a lifetime benefit under an option elected by the retiree at retirement. An eligible spouse is entitled to one-half the COLA amount that would have been paid to the retiree when the retiree would have met the eligibility criteria. A beneficiary receiving the accidental death benefit for five or more years on behalf of a deceased Employees’ Retirement System member. Receiving COLA You will receive your first COLA increase the month following the month you become eligible. You will receive the prorated portion due for the month you became eligible plus the COLA for the month you receive the payment. Once you are eligible, you will receive an annual COLA increase each September. We will send you a letter informing you of the amount prior to your September 30th pension payment, when the increase goes into effect.

You collect data on the salaries paid and days worked for Retirement System members and send it to us. The accurate and timely reporting of this information is extremely important because the salaries you report determine your employees’ final average salaries (FAS). FAS and days worked, which are used to determine service credit, are the two key factors used in the calculation of retirement benefits. If members are not reported in a timely manner, it can result in additional interest owed on their member contributions, loans and payments for previous service.
