Depending on what news media reports all different, some say two injured CNN saying two dead. Hope they caught the SOB.

(CNN) -- At least two firefighters were killed when they were shot after arriving to battle a blaze at a house in upstate New York on Monday, officials said.

Two other firefighters were injured, police in Webster, New York, told reporters.

Authorities believe someone shot at the firefighters shortly after they exited their vehicles, said Rob Boutillier, fire marshal in the town of Webster, New York.

For hours, the gunfire stopped firefighters from working to extinguish the flames and forced police SWAT teams to evacuate homes in the area.

It's obvious that the shooter didn't want the first responders to put out the fire that he most likely set.

Or maybe it's one of those "anti govt" nutcases, shooting at a Govt issued uniform.

BTW...It's a government issued costume.  And a firemen costume doesn't give them the illegitimate authority to arrest and detain.  They aren't sociopaths that choose their career because they like having the power to make people submit to their demands.

William Spengler Identified As Webster Firefighter Shooter; Killed Grandmother In 1980s

The shooter who shot and killed two responding firefighters and injured two others in Webster, New York this morning has been identified as convicted killer William Spengler, 62.

Police say that Spengler spent 17 years in prison for killing his grandmother in 1980. He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the violence at the fire this morning.

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said Spengler set a home on fire on Lake Road and waited for firefighters to arrive, ambushing them with gunfire. His motive is unclear. The shooting killed Lt. Mike Chiapperini, 43, a volunteer firefighter and Webster Police Department’s public information officer, and firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka. Theodore Scardino and Joseph Hofsetter were also shot and are recovering in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

In addition a police officer from Greece who was driving by was hit by shrapnel and injured.

Several weapons were used at the shooting today, including "at least" an assault rifle, Pickering said.

"This is an individual who obviously had a lot of problems," he said, adding that there were "probably some mental health issues."

Pickering said Spengler was arrested in 1980 and convicted of killing his grandmother, serving time until 1998.

The fires are reportedly under control, Webster police officials said at a press conference. Four homes were completely destroyed in the blaze and four more were damaged.

Maybe he hated uniforms from his stay in prison.

Fears are growing for the sister of a crazed gunman who shot dead two volunteer firefighters after he lured them to their deaths by setting fire to his house on Christmas Eve.

Cheryl Spengler lived with her felon brother William Spengler at the home he burned down early Monday in Webster, New York. Police say she is missing.

A family friend of William Spengler says he 'couldn't stand' his sister and said the two had a difficult relationship.

Police are investigating whether a fight with her sparked the shocking violence - which took place just ten days after the elementary school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.

Regardless of why he committed these killings, it brings to light the great defect in the US, whereby they have
no idea how to prevent or stop suicide killers.

The US has enough nukes to destroy the entire solar system, but deterrents don't work on suicide killers.

The recent killings were suicide attacks, not gun issues. The US is defenseless against them, both here and around the world.

The US must treat the underlying causes to begin to end suicide attacks.

Around the world we have seen suicide attackers using improvised explosive devices, or any methods available.

There may never be a way to prevent or even to reduce suicide attacks, but it needs to be addressed.

in an attempt to save my life?

The shooter was previously in prison for murdering his grandmother, since he was a violent felon legally he wasn't allowed to own firearms, however he was armed with a AR-15, a shotgun and a pistol. So someone explain to me how more gun control laws is going to stop these shootings, it didn't stop this guy but for many on the left they believe the criminals will follow the new laws, fcking idiots. This shooting is proof why gun laws don't stop shootings and why it is a terrible idea to disarm law abiding citizens.

Box, pushing his fear again.

How many people reading this board have had the consumed thug risk their lives to save yours?  My answer - ZERO.

How many people reading this board have had a costumed thug stop while driving to ask you where you are coming from, where you are going, or if you have been drinking?

My prediction is that many more people will answer yes to question 2.
