SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Saratoga County officials have reported the death of a resident of the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home.
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors sent out a statement saying that it appeared an 85-year-old resident climbed out of the window of his private room sometime between staff bed checks at 11:00 p.m. Friday evening and 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The resident was discovered missing by staff members during the 1:00 a.m. bed check. He was located after a search of the nursing home's grounds.
At 1:20 a.m., the Ballston Spa Police Department received a 911 call from an employee at the Saratoga County Infirmary, Maplewood Manor, reporting that a male resident had fallen from a second story window.
When police arrived on the scene, they located an elderly male resident who was on the ground in a grass-enclosed area near the building.
The male was attended to by members of the Ballston Spa Ambulance service and then transported to Albany Medical Center with undetermined injuries, according to police.
Preliminary reports indicate that he was declared deceased at the Saratoga Hospital, according to the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.
The fatality has been reported to the New York State Department of Health, and a comprehensive investigation of the incident is underway

BALLSTON SPA — Carlton Decker, an 85-year-old Saratoga County nursing home resident who was found outside a facility at 1 a.m. Sunday, died of a heart attack, officials said Monday. Police have also abandoned their theory of how Decker, a longtime resident of the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home who was confined to a secure second-floor wing, got outside into a courtyard where he was found. This place is now County run...it's just been set to be privitized and not soon enough.
Which family member is going to bring the lawsuit against the County? I know I would.
Terrible way to die, at a nursing home during a freak accident.
So sorry for this man and his family.

the windows have mandated locks, regardless if they slide up or sideways....I think it's like 8inches....
here's the deal....stay home....really.....the system is just punitive....and so is society....it DOESN'T remove the bad sh!t
