Schenectady Police Chief Mark Chaires says there's currently an internal investigation to find out whether there was inappropriate conduct during a platoon party that included strippers last week.
"It's an on-going investigation, we're hoping to have a final draft of the report wrapped up by the end of the week," Chief Chaires said.
Chaires says the party happened on Wednesday night at Johnny Goo's Clam Shack on Lower Broadway in Schenectady. He says the party was for the midnight to 8:00a.m. shift which is about 25 people.
"Every year different units will have a party, it's a glorified Christmas party, we always have one at the end of the year," Chief Chaires said. "I can tell you having a stripper at one of these parties is unprecedented."
Chaires says he was made aware that there may have been some inappropriate conduct between his officers and strippers during the party after someone told a news agency about it and he started recieving calls.
"They were questioning that there was a stripper and that things may have crossed the line at the platoon party," Chaires said.
Watching strippers is not illegal, however if the officers went too far and touched a stripper or if a stripper revealed her breasts or her bottom there may have been city decency law violations.
"We just have a standard," Chief Chaires said "This tarnishes the image we're trying put forth."
Chief Chaires is retiring before the end of the year. His last day is Sunday the 30th. Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy has not yet revealed who will be taking his place.
The owner of "Tops in Bottoms," Nathan Rice, said someone paid $375 for the two-girl show, which normally lasts an hour and a half.
He said that night he was contacted by one of his bouncers, who said the officers wanted to hire strippers. He sent two girls over with a chaperone. He was never contacted directly by anyone in the party.
"Usually at the end of the night the bouncer will call if there was anything inappropriate. It sounds like everyone had a good time. It was a Christmas party," Rice said.
When asked about the investigation into inappropriate police conduct. Rice replied: "it's silly. "
"I don't think anyone did anything," Rice said. |

The Schenectady City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday night to reinstate a position to the police department's administration. It was decided that a third police chief is necessary to keep the department running smoothly. The position may be on the chopping block again when it's time to consider the 2014 budget if the police department doesn't show improvement. |

Was the overnight platoon commanding officer there? The article doesn't say. If supervision was there or knew, then it was sanctioned. Maybe not by the chief, but by somebody in management. |

Come on Visitor?! Really? The minute the whispers of 'strippers' at this Christmas party (oh sorry...the politically correction of 'holiday party') were heard, SOMEBODY in the department should have stepped up. What idiot was in charge of this fiasco? Did they hire Ted Nuget as the party planner???? |

Denise Brucker is head of "work force" at SCCC? lol. What happened at Adirondack CC? She never held a private sector job. Another only in Schenectady. She can train a new generation of Lumpy Kosiurs.
she probably trained the strippers,,,,ooops.....dancers....ooops....entertainers.....ooops,,,,no that would have been Morris..... |

rachel
might have more pressing matters than worry about Christams parties - it's not a Deparetment sanctioned event - cannot explain it any simpler than that.
And again - it's not illegal. If they wanted to have a private party on their own time - in a private locataion - don't know that management could prvenet it. |

Really Visitor?
So if cocaine and illegal acts were done...let's blow that off too as a 'non-sanctioned' event.
Your perception in the community is paramount. It brings respect to the department. When you do stupid a** moves, you're reputation gets shaken.
When higher-ups don't know about strippers at their own xmas party...well...your investigation unit must really suck! |

As it was the midnight shift wondering how many were on duty. They're always saying they are short staffed. Again don't care about the strippers, but if there was drinking and some on duty there and even some not on duty that had their weapons...... |
