Unfortunately, there is no reality check for this type of thinking. I could point to the FACT that the schools have gotten more expensive and the quality has gone downhill and these people would not see it as proof that they were wrong. No, it just would mean that they didn't do enough damage. They didn't get every single child in the same building eating the same food for three meals a day for more hours with more health care professionals to produce perfect results. It doesn't matter if no one does very well, as long as no one does better than anyone else.
Another reality check - it would really be a big convenience to a lot of Schenectadians if we could do our Christmas shopping without having to leave the city. We spend so much to live here, it would be nice to save the gas and hassle and get some benefit from all the money we put into that area. Can anyone tell me what shopping they've done downtown? I think people visit for Melodies of Christmas, I mean Holiday, and I know people still shop at the Open Door, but both of those things predate Metroplex and all the remodeling and spending.
These people just somehow get a comptroller to issue a rosy report and a judge to say their kid isn't a criminal and some stooge to write letters to the paper that everything is great and ignore all evidence to the contrary. I can understand that a greedy 47% taker might have to believe that she is actually doing great things "for the children' but how the heck do they get so many others believing them?
They "created hundreds of good paying jobs" but heartburnkid and my young friend aren't being tipped off as to where these jobs are, even though they actively are seeking or sought work, and half of Schenectady's children live in poverty. Why are people so easy to fool? Doesn't the fact that these people who are so admiring of downtown don't actually spend any time and money there make them think, at all?
Okay, ranting again. I would just like to be able to shop where I live, spend money that I'm going to spend anyway where I get more back in the form of that business helping pay tax so I don't have to pay as much, stop the exodus of families.... I think when they named Schenectady the Cockroach City they were talking about an insect problem which existed then, but it is more appropriate today because we have a horrible cockroach class hiding behind facades they are building with our money. |
