Metroplex eases SCCC cleanup costs SCHENECTADY — Schenectady County Community College has received a $100,000 grant from the Metroplex Development Authority to offset some of the cost of the damage incurred by the college during Tropical Storm Irene last year. The funding is part of an Emergency Commercial District Investment Grant from National Grid to Metroplex. The college was hit by more than $500,000 in direct storm-related costs including removing debris and repairing infrastructure. Electrical repairs totaled more than $150,000, according to Board of Trustees Chairwoman Denise Murphy McGraw. During the August 2011 fl ooding, the surging Mohawk River submerged the college’s parking lot off Washington Avenue. Water seeped into Elston Hall, fl ooding the copy and mail room. Water also flooded the basement of the Begley Building.

Yes, the TAXPAYERS PAY!!!!!
Homeowners who go through this do NOT get plex help. Rather homeowners have to file a claim with their insurance, if insurance doesn't pay in full, then they pay the rest out of pocket, so now, homeowners pay for their own clean up PLUS the clean up of a cdowntown location.
Why is it the college has money to create upscale apartments for kids (who should be just living at home and communiting to school) but it has no money for clean up?
Tax and spend, tax and spend.

Metrograft was established to stabilize property values and create jobs. Not to help other poorly run nonprofits. No wonder Death Ray is such a laughing stock in the Downtown business community. Where's the Mikey D's? |

Wow, guess when you pay-to-play it really works for you!!
SCCC renting part of Center City...well, here's your $100K for playing the Gillen's "Let's Make a Deal" scam in the form of yet another grant.
It's so dirty, you can't even wash your hands enough in the Mohawk River. |

The school should've had money put by in an emergency fund, before going on spending sprees. Higher Ed has become a new money grab racket, the way that nonprofits are. |

Patches--the banks can't wait to get their hands on the properties? What are you drinking? When's the last time you rode through Schenectady? The houses and businesses are all assessed at more money than they are worth. Not even the banks want them. |

What we do: The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority's works to attract new jobs and new investment to Schenectady County. Its efforts focus on key commercial corridors and business parks strategically located throughout the County with a special emphasis on redevelopment of the downtown area in the City of Schenectady. We are guided by the three criteria: 1.to expand the county's property tax base; 2.to expand the sales tax base; and 3.to create and retain jobs. And the $100,000 dollar grant for storm damage expenses has what to do with their above mission statement?? |

You are misguided by more than three criteria. 100,000 has everything to do with what they are about. |

1. And the tax base has plummted, especially where Metroplex has done the most amount of work. 2. Sales tax base expanded? Even with the county getting the lion's share, they still blew the tax cap big time 3. Still waiting for a list of jobs that have been created; that is, permanent, not temporary jobs. What what is the typical hourly pay of these jobs. Who are the employers? Where is Metroplex' report to the taxpayers on this? And they cannot include jobs such as Shop-Rite, etc because they didn't initiate that project so they can't take credit. Let's see who answers. Obviously the cheerleader for dems and plex won't respond because he cannot provide a shred of EVIDENCE of positive answers. |
