According to my spies the Niskayuna Starbucks will soon have a drive thru. This should ease the parking issue and greatly expand their business. Meanwhile Death Ray and Fat Morris can't even get a Dunkin Donuts downtown. Flush the tax dollars on tree grates, unused bike paths and new curbing. Noboby say nuthin and pretend all is well. |

I had heard that they were knocking down the old Friendly's. It was kind of a bottleneck with that unused building sitting there. |

Yes! Bigger more convenient and soon with a drive thru. Meanwhile back in Downtown how much is Fat Morris' coffeehouse losing? They can't even make anything during Sundays Farmers Market because everyone goes to the Ambition coffee stand. |

While Nisky gets a new drive thru Starbucks in Downtown still no Dunkin, no Starbucks and no Mickey D's. WTF is Death Ray doing? He was on Fat Morris TV-16 patting himself on the back for Art's Night- lol. Meanwhile the City keeps spiraling into bankruptcy because of the dozens of free loaders Downtown that received permanent tax exemptions. |

"Dunkin’ Donuts is all about the coffee."
Store Locations: Starbucks: More than 17,000 locations, the majority owned by the company Dunkin’ Donuts: 9,805 “points of distribution” as of March 26, according to IPO filings.
Price for a 20-ounce cup of Joe: Starbucks: $2.25 Dunkin’ Donuts: $1.95 ( Prices based on WSJ reporting in Chicago)
Annual Sales Starbucks: $10.7 billion for the year ended Oct. 3, 2010. Dunkin’ Donuts: $6 billion for year ended Dec. 25.
Market Value: Starbucks: Stock market value of about $30 billion. Dunkin’ Donuts: The company has a stock-market value of $2.4 billion,
I'll take Dunkin any day over Starbucks. To my taste, Starbucks coffee tastes burnt. |

I have been informed by aficianados that the burnt taste is a west coast thing. They like the over-roasted beans. I much prefer Dunkin' Donuts myself, except that sometimes their coffee actually is burnt because they leave it sitting on the burner too long or something. I also don't like the business model of having the stupidest kids they can find behind the counter. One near me, the girl is actually snotty . Okay, I digress. Stewart's has the best deal on coffee, and if you think it has been sitting there too long you can request that they make you a fresh pot and they are supposed to do that for you. Remember, anyone, when you went into a Dunkin' Donuts, sat at a counter, and they came over and poured you a real cup of coffee? The doughnuts were made on-site every four hours. I do think it is pretty bad that downtown doesn't even have some kind of doughnut/coffee shop. You wouldn't worry about safety because cops are always at those places. I suggested to Krispy Kreme that they look at a Schenectady site, like where the White Tower was, but I guess they wanted Lathamas a geographic center which looked good on paper but was actually a logistical nightmare. I used to go for jury duty, sometimes you would get a short break and you were stranded. Denney's you can get coffee now but it isn't really a to go place and it isn't walking distance from the courthouse. |

Madam X. I was forced by lack of a DD, to buy Starbucks while in the south and in Montreal, as well as once in DC. To me they all tasted burnt. Dunkin is owned by local franchisees, and although the products are all similar, the services is much different. I've backed away from some local DD's and embraced some that are the best I've seen. I know what you mean about the people behind the counter... some are awful and detract from the product. One DD in particular is owned by a local family owns 3 franchises, all three are clean and friendly. I met the owner and complimented her on the cleanness, good quality and most of all, the pleasant, competent staff. Who they hire makes all the difference in the world. |

Starbuck's will all taste burnt, regardless of location, because they are a chain all using the same process to make the coffee. It originated in Seattle, where the over-roasted bean is the standard. Someone told me there was a popular brand, Peet's, that Starbuck's was modeled after. Peet's is quite burnt tasting. Green Mountain Roasters is another brand with the preferred east coast flavor, but when they sell it at mini-markets and so forth it can get messed up. |
