Quoted from rpforpres

This will be a disaster. Taking all the dogs from the other counties?  What are they thinking?

Inmates running the place.

What about a Veterinarian? Or employees to offer adoptions?

Will the animals be put down and cremated, or will that be done elsewhere?

This isn't a planned operational shelter, just a storage unit.

Wow. This has got to be a joke, what do inmates and water workers know about running a shelter? What does the city know about administering a shelter? This has got to be in the top 5 of most ridiculous things that has Schenectady done.

And by the end of the year?!?!?No way will this work without a comprehensive plan. You can't just dump a pile of dog crates in an empty room. In addition to care, what about socializing the dogs so that they can be adopted (f there are behavioral issues which is more than likely why the person would turn in an animal)? Medications if needed, special diets. Dogs need to be taken outside too for an hour a day, oh wait-the inmates will know about that! Seriously you can't keep them caged non-stop, they require exercise. What about liability insurance? What happens when someone gets bitten?

I could go on and on......

APF is probably ROFL! Just pay them to do it, this involves more than the city can handle and more than the city can afford.
The APF is a caring and knowledgable operation. Leave it to the pro's for the sake of the animals! What are they thinking?
They're not obviously, if they were then it would be evident that this can't possibly be up and running (properly) by the end of the

year. Just wow.

Do what you have to do to make the temporary housing at the police station comply with the law and leave the rest to the real
shelters who are eqipped to do this properly.

not the uncaring inmates and water workers who have no experience in this venue....

Now whose birhgt idea was this????......why isn't that a fact........and more info needed....to make it legit......and the way it will be legal, clean,

and productive...

The issue re: inmates running the kennels was based on a volunteer quoting unnamed 3rd parties.  It is not accurate.

A few facts:  While there are crates there now, that is only until they build kennels similar to the ones at APF.

The kennels will only be for basic short term stays.  No veterinarian care, simply shelter from the elements and food. Animals requiring more by law would be sent elsewhere, but, the vast majority of strays only require food and shelter.

It beats paying APF $60/day.  And, if they have the space to take in dogs from otehr areas and charge a reaosnable fee to offset costs - it makes even more sense.

Ididn't do it - re: socializing for adoption, that is not is the game plan now.  Perhaps adoptable dogs could go to APF as long as the City does not have to pay.

Where is the line item in the budget for it?   City homeowners, many losing their homes or going without medical in order to pay for Philip Morris' taxes have a birthright entitlement to know where the money is in the budget for it.

Oh, it might add a penny to the tax bill?   Well, a penny saved is a penny earned.

Leave it privatized.   Just like the dems in the county need to represent the taxpayers and privatize the nursing home.

City Corporation Counsel John Polster said Friday that the shelter is needed even though the city has a contract with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands and the Montgomery County SPCA in Amsterdam to take the its stray, loose, and dangerous dogs

Visitor-

What do you mean by basic short term stays? Until they can be transported to the APF or other shelter? How many days is
short term? And then what would happen after the short term stay? Is there a procedure in place? Who would make the
determination and how, if the dog requires more than food and shelter?

Please tell me that they are not housing dogs now, in crates. That is inhumane for more than several hours at a time.
I would hope that humane treatment is the priority. If just housed there temporarily, how often would someone be there to
provide care/supervise ? Will the SPCA be involved?

Are they going to have a volunteer program? I would be interested.

Thanks in advance for your reply, I appreciate your time in answering my questions..
