Why single out Farley when they all do it?
This is regarding Mark Vermilyea’s Nov. 28 letter [“Farley should just give the pension money back”] and The Daily Gazette’s Nov. 23 editorial [“Farley should fix problematic pension law”] regarding “double dipping” by elected officials. The editorial did not list Rep. Paul Tonko as also being a “double dipper,” as he receives a New York state pension in addition to his federal salary. Sure, legally he can do this, but does that make it any more ethical than Sen. Hugh Farley receiving his pension in addition to his salary? People will take all they are entitled to and a lot they are not; that is human nature and not found solely within the confines of government employment. You will find that 99 percent of government employees are just like the average person. And you would probably find that most elected offi cials are honest and hard-working individuals. To single out individuals to put on the public carpet does not serve the public interest.

As usual the Daily Gazette edits out any criticism to its publication. I'm sure we can thank Judy Patrick for that. Their reporting has been very much sub-standard and I can't say that I'm pleased to have them as the city's "official publication."
Attached it the original letter I wrote to them.
The mistakes or lack of proofing is undeniable with this rag of a newspaper. They do not serve the public interest.

But you thought highly enough of them to write an editorial letter. |

Like there's a choice????? It is just more proof that the sheople will fall for everything and anything that comes out of the 'dem mouth piece'! And it has been become quite obvious, that thru the years, anyone trying to correct 'misinformation'....gets edited or not published at all! The gazetto reaches the lion's share of schenectady county. They know that they are the only horse in town. Ya gotta work with what ya got and hope for the best.............no? |

Yes the TU.
Ah, but then if folks read the TU there'd be nothing to b**ch about. Seriously, if the Gazette bothers people so much, why do they read it? Oh yeah, gotta have something to b**ch about. |

not true....well not in all cases i'm sure.....but it's really not bit@hing.....it's exposing the lie, or the spin, or the fluff. ............setting the record straight, so to say. |

Not sure I believe that, considering the letter writer has been beefing with the Gazette for quite some time now. And again the option of shunning the Gazette is always there. |

This is where it went off topic, I believe the rest of the comments in thread are concerning this.

yer splitting hairs here. the truth of the matter is.......many many many folks have written letters to the editor in the gazetto and many many many have either had them edited for 'their' content or not printed at all. and many many many folks have, as you would say, have a 'beef' with the gazette....but again, when it's the only game in town....ya got what ya got. the fact is...........the gazetto stifles free speech when they can't 'spin and fluff' it. everyone with a half a brain knows that they are the cheerleaders for the SCUMnectady liberal party.....and again.....ya work with what ya got!! |

Fact is...The Gazette was able to edit Zollenger's letter(who has a reputation as an edgy grassroots limited government activist) and make it appear that she is an advocate for the government.
If I were Ms. Zollenger, I would sue the Gazette for libel for editing a letter to harm the reputation she worked 10+ years creating. |

It wasn't about double dipping. Her full letter was about the Gazette's bias selection of letters to the editor. They deleted that whole part to change the tone of the letter. |

Let's see, thread title = "Double Dipping > They All Do It" and then this comment
Wasn't the thread about leveling the playing field and blame for all the politicians that Double Dip? Had nothing to do with the Gazette did it??
Seems to me the topic was: "Double Dipping > They All Do It" It also seems to me anytime there's the slightest criticism of "St. Zollinger" here, it elicits a firestorm of indignation. Funny how that works. |
