Military personnel during the Vietnam war were subjected to much criticism and abuse, even those that did not participate in the combat. Non-military personnel in the states, (many classified as hippies), felt they could protest in many fforms, and that was their right. However, many felt they had the right to SPIT on military personnel, calking them baby killers, etc. Much of this as the result of a vary, very few that stepped outside of the Military code in what they did in Veitnam. However, these "AMERICN CITIZENS" felt that they could put the blame on all military personnel they saw.

When I came home from boot camp, I stopped in Grand Central Station in NYC to change trains. There were a group that I could definately charaterize as Hippies, hanging together, sincing and just being themselves. When they saw me they came rushing over, calling me a baby killer, pushing and shoving me and finally someone spit on me. What happened as a result is not important.  But here I was, straight from boot camp and my orders were not for Vietnam and I had not been there, but these "people" felt they had the right to do what they did.

So let's discuss and see where this goes.....
Why does anyone feel they have the right to attack and spit on people becuase they disagree with what is going on half way around the world. How is spitting on me or any other soldier going to resolve the anger over the war? Why did they feel they had the right to do this...what gives them the almighty power of judgement?

you shouldn't have been spit on....you were a grunt following orders...

because that's what the military is.....

no ill feelings from here.....it's just another type of system

you did your job....good

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

You're so full of sh*t it's coming out of your fingertips, and onto the keyboard.

Let me ask you something.
If you were just at say, at walmart, and some 18 year old long haired guy just walked up to you, screamed at you, and spit on you, what would you do?
Punch him in the face, or go off and cry about it?

I thought so.

Maybe you are good at lies and fabrication for selfish reasons, but I'm not...and here you are, just like those Hippies, judging me becuase of what I wrote, calling me a liar.

First of all, spitting is now a crime. Exposing others to bodily fluids is more serious than in
the 60s, due to AIDS.

Everyone has the right to not want people killed, and the right to express it to those who are
members of the
group that actually do the killing.

You chose to represent the group that was performing the killings by wearing their uniform.

Had a war actually been declared and a fight to conquer the other country, things may have
been a lot different.

Killing people who never did anything to any American has become standard American military
procedure.

During an actual declared war, a person expects this kind of behavior from both sides in the war.

Viet Nam was a war based on propaganda. Ignorant Communist fear mongering propaganda.

In my lifetime there has never been an actual war. Just people killing other people who never
did anything to the other.

Pre-emptive self defense against people who did nothing.

People won't stop killing each other unless others get in their face and let them know they are
not being supported.

It is a very sad state of affairs that it has come to this, but we can't keep acting like crazed
Palestinians and Jews killing anyone we want.

It has to stop. Nothing has been won in any conflict since WW2.

Just illegal deaths, more commonly known as murder.

Obama is guilty, Both Bush's, Clinton, Raegan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Kennedy, etc.

What has ever been gained by these deaths?

Is Iraq a better place?

Is Viet Nam? Obviously yes, but not because we fought to make their country better
for them.

Korea?

Just death and destruction. We are allegedly world leaders. Everyone else learned
killing without a war from us.

This cannot be allowed to continue. People need to stand up and get in the faces
of those who support killings.

Anti abortion people have no problem doing it.

This absolutely the same.

We spend more on the military than the largest 25 other countries in the world.

China has 2,000,000,000 people, the US has 310,000,000, yet we spend a hundred times
what they do on military.

It is mental illness to continue the same actions year after year expecting a different outcome.

People that support people who kill anyone their commander feels deserves it will get no
support from me.

They will get my freedom of expression in their faces.

Spitting was not a myth.

Thinking that you can kill your way to peace is the myth.

Nobody is spitting...The debate is why the soldier is granted immunity for their responsibility in murder for what in most cases were offensive and unjust wars?  When does the soldier become morally and legally responsible for their actions?  When can the people start saying "hey soldiers, stop pulling the triggers and dropping the bombs"?

The best example of the double standard would be Box a Rox's condemnation of George Zimmerman for killing Trayvon Martin what was arguably in self defense, yet his endless support for soldiers that dropped bombs on many innocent Iraqi, Afghani, and Pakistani civilians in PURELY OFFENSIVE AND AGGRESSIVE attacks.  And he doesn't even call for war crimes to be pursued against our generals or politicians.  Why?  Those lives are meaningless?

Some people don't differentiate between government sanctioned murder and non government sanctioned murder.  I believe the majority of Americans have been desensitized to violence and murder and have accepted the "official" policy of preemptive murder.  Not to mention, the state controlled media has done a great job keeping the death and destruction our military spreads throughout the world from the public eye.

joeboxer....good thread....but i am hoping you didn't start this thread with the intent to take every post personally....cause if that was your intent.....it should be deleted.....k?

For me it isn't 'personal' so to say....my issue is with the 'system'. A system that has failed miserably. A system that has allowed killing of the innocent under the guise of 'honor'. Killing and invading another sovereign nation again under the guise of 'honor'. There is NO honor in invading and killing citizens of another sovereign nation that was NEVER a threat to americans or it's borders! It was a total deception along with all the other hippie bullsh!t of the times.

We are reliving it again today....only difference.......the left over hippies that were pot smoking, LSD'n, America haters, spitting on american solders, anti-war, make love not war.....are running this country......who'd a thought.

It is what it is joeboxer........again....my issue is with the system....nothing personal.

The debate is wht I wrote, not where you want to take it...start your own thread if you like...this thread was created specifically to debate the issue I presented...please feel free to join in as I am sure you have some opionons about what I wrote (not about the system and government,,,not the issue, that's a whole different topic.)

BT, absolutely true...personal was n 1968...I'm not looking for anything except a honest discussin about a topic that has been underlying becuase of some other statements in the forum.  Of course, there's always a clown like TOMMY that wants to call people liars....so his comments are useless.
