Good suggestion on the Albany entry level position, going look into that tomorrow. Interviewed with AAA today. Got shut down last month when I interviewed and was asked to come in today for a different position. Ugh. If I get shut down again by them I am gonna lose my mind.

Very good actually. Every interview I've had went well. Normally just bs with whomever is doing the interview, laugh, and it goes well. (At least I think it does) I am honest, polite, and personable in them. Just hasn't been working thus far.

30 years old with. Meaningless college degree. If I would have known that college was meaningless, I never would have went, lol. Still waiting for the letter in the mail from AAA saying the position was filled -sorry! Yet again.

Heard the electrical union was hiring.
It's not an over night process though.
It can take months.

The degree is not totally useless, although it may seem so to you right now. A lot of companies require degrees now for jobs that you didn't need one for in the past. So a degree keeps you from being excluded right off the bat, even though it doesn't help you secure a good job like it used to.
Try not to be discouraged. Bear in mind that there aren't many jobs around, but you only need ONE job.
If you do follow up on the electrical union angle, you might look into one of the temp agencies to keep some cash in your pocket while you wait. They aren't very good to work for, but if you have a goal in mind it could be bearable.
The OneStop or whatever they call it, downtown, offers free employment counseling. This is NOT a welfare type service even though you have to go into that horrible DSS building to access their services. Because of the lack of jobs, their service is more or less a pep talk right now but if there is some angle you are overlooking or some area where you are not selling yourself as strongly as you could, they can point you in the right direction. AGAIN, this has nothing to do with DSS and it's unfortunate that they stuck it in that hellish building with that inadequate and shoddy parking lot.

Unfortunately I do have to go to the horrible building for one stop as a condition of unemployment. Man, I really wish Time Warner didn't cut us back, really miss the job. Working from home was a bonus too! That DSS building is pure filth though. Luckily the line to be seen when lookin for a job isn't as long as their 'free stuff' lines. I am usually seen and out the door all within a half hour of arriving - that includes the meeting time with a counselor.

if you go on Times Union Albany.....and under classifieds......there are many jobs to be found in all kinds of careers.....there are jobs..

you have to press on........and maybe try a new career....

I'd take a hard look at your resume again, send it to someone in HR for a review of it, if you know someone. There are so many things that you can do wrong on a resume, that will put it into the delete category within seconds.

You might have to suck it up and apply for a job you don't like even if its flipping burgers. You can also drive around and try to find some active construction sites, maybe they could use another strong back for their odd jobs.

companies that hire college degree folks when one actually isn't needed, are doing the 're-leverageing' game .....

the system is at RE-SET.....

companiies aren't paying for degrees anymore....they are paying for workers
