Report: Ex-Schenectady school chief Ely put on leave from new jobUpdated 8:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012
Eric Ely, a former Schenectady schools superintendent who left amid controversy, has been put on administrative leave from his current job leading a school district in Southbridge, Mass., according to the Worchester Telegram & Gazette.
Quoting the chairman of the district's school committee, the newspaper reported that Ely was put on leave "in connection with a complaint the panel received."
School officials did not explain the nature of the complaint and Ely told the newspaper he wasn't interested in discussing his situation.
Ely joined the district in 2010. Prior to that, he lead the Schenectady school district. Ely left the district after prosecutors revealed that the head of the district's facilities department, Steven Raucci, waged a years-long campaign of vandalism against perceived enemies in the school district.
Schenectady County District Attorney Robert M. Carney suggested the Ely tipped off Raucci to the investigation but Ely never faced charges.
It is at least the second time Ely has faced trouble with his new district's board. During the summer, some board members attempted to relieve Ely of his duties but the measure failed 4-3, according to the Telegram & Gazette.
