MALTA — A major player in the semiconductor industry has been scouting land in the Capital Region where it can build a 3.2 million-square-foot computer chip factory.

Deloitte, the global consulting firm, has been hired by the semiconductor manufacturer to find a site.

Local economic development officials have been briefed on the project but have been sworn to secrecy because of the sensitivity of the deal, sources said.

Using the code words "Project Azalea," the Deloitte's selection team is considering two local sites, including Luther Forest Technology Campus in Saratoga County and Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush.

The Marcy Nanocenter, in Oneida County outside Utica, has also been considered. Sites in other states that host the computer chip industry such as Texas and California are also possibilities.

When contacted for this story, local economic development officials wouldn't speak about the potential project because they had signed non-disclosure agreements.

...
Intel is a logical choice because it also made Albany its East Coast 450mm headquarters.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Just ask yourself, if I owned a business would I want to move it to Schenectady? With high taxes, boarded up homes, crime out of control, and a school district that can't graduate 50%. Outside the two blocks of downtown o our city leaders have let the neighborhoods degrade into an eye sore with roads that resemble a washboard and infrastructure that hasn't been maintained in years.

Schenectady is NOT the place people would want to work AND live.

Even the present schenectady business folks don't live in the city...........many don't even live in the county!!!

The city is an urban slum and the rest of the county is beginning to follow suit.

It's the new america!!

If the gaduation rate was the deal breaker than Albany and Rensaleer are out as well.

Crime is a significant problem - but out of control?  No.   You cannot intelligently address the problems by denying or exaggerating their size and scope.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Crime out of control is Chicago...  Detroit.

However we are heading there I assure you.

High unemployment, lower payrolls, inflation...  Crime goes up.

And the city leaders are professionals at lowering the tax base, so there's no way to hire more police officers.

I really don't see it ever getting better, especially with the results of the last election.

schenectady is where the underserved and elder live, and are taken care of at the expense of the taxpayers.
