SCHENECTADY Low-price tickets for ‘Wicked’ to be offered BY BETHANY BUMP Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Bethany Bump at 395-3107 or bbump@dailygazette.net.
“Wicked” arrives at the Proctors main stage next week, and the theater is offering a last-minute opportunity for fans to grab seats at a discounted rate. Prior to each performance during the 19-day run, Proctors will host a lottery for a limited number of seats at $25 each. Tickets are normally priced between $35 and $165. There are a few caveats, though. The lottery is available only to people who show up to the Proctors Box Office with a valid photo ID two and a half hours before the performance. Their names will be thrown into a lottery drum, and 30 minutes later, 10 names will be drawn. Winners must pay cash for the tickets, which are limited to two per person. Proctors also offered a ticket lottery when “Rent” opened here in July 2009 and several months later when “Wicked” first came to town, in December 2009, said Box Offi ce Manager Judie Bouchard. The 20 extra seats are reserved in the front left and right loges of the theater, she said. The “Wicked” cast will fi rst take the stage Wednesday at 8 p.m. and will perform a total of 24 shows through Nov. 25. The award-winning musical was town three years ago, breaking Proctors’ box offi ce records and selling out in record time. The buzz appears to have quieted slightly this time around, with a smaller turnout of early birds for the first day of ticket sales this year. .......................................>>>>.....................................>>>>.........................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01103&AppName=1

Three years in a row and Wicked has gotten a little stale.
Such vision and originality .....
They're just waiting for their next multi-million dollar grant to install gold toilets. |

If you consider that the original movie was made over 70 years ago, and it continues to draw good ratings every time it's shown on TV... and that this show has sold out for most previous shows at Proctors... as long as a good crowd wants to buy the tickets, why not offer a proven success. The success of the Broadway production of Wicked has spawned several other productions worldwide, including various North American productions, a long-running Laurence Olivier Award-winning West End production and a series of international productions. Since its 2003 debut, Wicked has broken box office records around the world, currently holding weekly-gross-takings records in Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, and London. In the week ending January 2, 2011, the London, Broadway, and both North American touring productions simultaneously broke their respective records for the highest weekly gross.[3][4] In the first week of 2012, the Broadway production broke this record again, earning $2.7 million. Both the West End production and the North American tour have been seen by over two million patrons each. |

You can only recycle this sh!t so many times. People are BROKE!!! The city is BROKE!!! Taxes are HIGH!! People are out of WORK!! Morris don't have a clue about reality when it comes to money since he and his empire live off the overburdened taxpayers. The truth of the matter is...........lowering the price of these tickets is proof that folks just can't afford this bullcrap! Basically Morris is BEGGING!! He just wants people in the seats at 'any cost' cause it 'looks good'!!! Not to mention that this will clearly pi$$ off the folks who paid full price!! |

Wicked is a money maker all over the USA. Schenectady is no different. Some Proctors shows barely break even... Wicked, like the show or not, puts DOLLARS into Schdy. |

This is just normal publicity -- 20 seats are set aside for each performance and offered up at the reduced through a lottery. Wicked is still very popular and drawing crowds to see it -- in places from Schenectady to London. |

I just looked for 2 tickets for Sat Nov 10, 8pm, 'best seats available'... Best they could do is 2 seats together 3rd row from the back. Doesn't sound like they are hurting for ticket sales to me. |

This is old hat. They are trying to create some excitement. Anyone that wanted to see it went last time and is not rushing back. Very few plays that can pack a theatre for an extended stay. That's the problem with putting your eggs in a theatre basket. Smaller turnout but higher production fees and costs. Another whiff for Fat Morris. |

Those best seats available for 2 seats would have cost $200. Apparently all those $100 and higher seats in front of the last 3 rows have been sold. Sounds like a money maker to me. |

Non-profits don't make money.
Non Profits certainly do "make money". How else do they pay expenses. An ideal 'non profit' would make it's entire budget, and not rely on taxpayers or donations. They don't make a profit, hence the name NON PROFIT |

"can 'give away' tickets"??????????What tickets are being "given away"? Certainly not the $25 a seat tickets in the Gazette. Often there are "single seats' throughout the theater that no one will buy. If at an hour before curtain time the tickets are sold for $25 each, the theater will maximize it's income from each performance. A wise policy. |

Non-profits don't make money.
They probably gave away the good seats to the connected. |
