Describes Sch'dy if you take out magic.

What a name for a Christmas parade : (

Toy vendors selling devil horns for kids to wear and Mardi Gras type items.

Sure the kids enjoyed it but if the adults were honest they know the true meaning and essense is lost.

we thought the same thing when we read this!
Oh well, the youngsters are just being indoctrinated into the 'true meaning of secularism'.
Wonder if there was a 'nativity float'.

the churches should get together and get a parade permit and have a nativity/christmas parade....

the government was allowed to usurp what was always the church's responsibility.....

the catholic church VS the church of england.....

Yeah, look at that photo.   There were actually stores downtown because taxes on the homeowners weren't so high so people, even with large families, had money to buy things.

And the stores back then actually paid taxes to the city

Downtown was thriving.

Today, even with exempting the most of downtown from taxes, people STILL are NOT renting those new, taxpayer-paid (residential) apartments downtown, even DV REFUSES to put his pinky toe into the city.  Good businesses that actually sell things that people NEED are NOT opening in downtown even with tax exemptions.

City homeowners will be paying twice the taxes by 2016 - yes, I know the audit said a "44% increase" but that was further clarified by the word "tax LEVY" and anyone who is as intelligent as we "nayboobs" are know that the facts, the evidence, proves that the tax BILL increases at a substantially higher percentage than the tax LEVY, if it is taking place in Schenectady, particularly the city.

Once, the Mohonasen Marching Band was bombed with eggs upon their return to the school parking lot after the parade, or so I hear.

I wonder how the Chinese Laundry theme in place of the Christmas these went over? Most people don't even notice they are being usurped by the reds until it is too late.

Since when has been the responsibility of churches to sponsor a Christmas parade?  Never.  You miss the whole point of Christmas if you think that you have to have a parade to properly celebrate it.

As for Schenectady's Holiday Parade, it was quite enjoyable.

It's a Christmas parade ruined by politically correct grinches Fat Morris and Death Ray. Return it to Black Friday so people can plan for it and out of town guests can attend.
RP's point is spot on. Since there are no stores it can be held anytime. Thought to point of moving it was to avoid a conflict with Proctor's? Traffic was a total mess as drivers crawled down
Union St. Not much Christmas cheer with the horn honking and screaming.

You mean you actually entered the city?   Did you go on the house tour today?   Putting in an offer anytime soon?   That'll be the day when you live in the city.

you learn well daniel-son.....

my point exactly...it's a parade to get everyone all 'pumped' for using their credit cards and probably overspending
so they can't wait to jump in line to do their freakin' income taxes to pay the christmas/hanakah/thanksgiving etc bills....
and yet the economy WHAT????
THE ECONOMY WHAT....??????
THE GOVERNMENT WHAT....?????

remember.....the government parades are like a visit to the locker room at half-time to keep the plebs marching along
so the unjust 'balance sheets' get back in the so called black......

again we're left eating our gall.....

the religious holiday IS different than 'this so called holiday of expense'.......

no wonder liquor sales skyrocket....

Wal Mart should be sponsoring the Christmas parade.
Price Chopper and Hannaford should be sponsoring Thanksgiving

Oh my, oh my, a couple that we socialize with said they saw a guy at the parade who was wearing a tie that was too short, and he was carrying pom poms like a cheerleader, and when the mayor walked by the guy started shaking the pom poms and yelling out, "gimme a G, gimme an A..... Rah rah the renaissance."

Obviously that was you.

Whatever happened to ‘Christmas parades’?

I remember growing up in Philadelphia, and my parents taking me to the annual Christmas parade. I moved to Schenectady in September 2010 and today [Nov. 17] I attended my first Schenectady “holiday parade.”
I have many questions, but I’ll probably get few answers. What happened to the word “Christmas?” The parade had very few references to Christmas.
There were wizards, warlocks, zombies, several dragons and even bikers. One float even had “Highway to Hell” playing. None of these items would make me think, or even dream, of Christmas. I only heard two bands playing Christmas music.
People wonder why America is falling apart? Wonder no more, as we can’t even say “Merry Christmas.”
