As part of the state's preparations for Hurricane Sandy, the Canal Corporation says they will reduce the water level to the minimum level needed for navigation.

We pressed Canal Corp. Director Director Brian Stratton on how much water they're talking about and he could not give an exact amount.

Checked the river this morning, and it's drawn down quite a bit.  Hope the Junction is spared.

This is going to be more of a wind event rather than rain one.

Remember, Irene dumped like 5" of rain in a 12 hr period

Actually, they are predicting both high winds and a lot of rain -- 3" to 6" over a few days for the Catskills and, of course the western Catskills drain into the Schoharie Creek and then into the Mohawk.  I drove down by the Mohawk this morning and the river level is actually quite high already.  Now - they claim that they brought down the Gilboa Reservoir to the "lowest level possible" in an attempt to prepare for the predicted deluge.  We'll just have to prepare for the worst and pray for the best outcome.

Thanks Mr Know-it-all.   Now he thinks he's a meteorologist.   Wait, or is it just another copy/paste from some channel.

Mohawk is high?    More chance of flooding, YOU can thank your Canal Corp head who knows nothing (as proven by being unable to answer questions from news media), he's just full of BS

Anything that has been done......is done.......now we just sit and wait it out!

There will be enough time for 'finger pointing' after the storm.

Isn't Kansas city located off the coast of Nebraska?

Oh give me a break!

The statements contained in the Ch 13 story have NOTHING to do with the city's "emergency declaration"   Get real.

Go read the declaration signed by McCarthy.   It makes the news and the stupid people in the city are duped into believing they have this wonderful mayor.

The declaration ASKS people to refrain from "unncessary" travel, other than that, it is nothing more than political propaganda.  There are no directions, no explicit instructions  that residents are supposed to abide by.

So people of Schenectady, just go about your lives like there was it was the the most pleasant sunny summer day.  Drive anywhere, there is no prohibition on it.  Have a Barbeque, burn your candles, rake and let your kids jump in the leaves.  Have fun.   Go to the movies, go shopping, go visit friends, etc.

This mayor is no leader at all.  Just like his predecessor who know nothing about the water levels of the canals he leads.
