SCHENECTADY — In this county, the state's "I Love New York" logo could be switched to "I Love Proctors."

The downtown theater is the state-designated tourism promotion agency for all of Schenectady County — the only entertainment venue among all 55 counties and regions that receives a TPA grant from the iconic "I Love New York" program.

The move is part of a metamorphosis that has seen Proctors transformed from just a theater to an arts and entertainment clearinghouse, taking on producing almost all public access television in the county and being home to the new location of the city's visitors center.

The County Legislature in January switched the "I Love New York" money from the Chamber of Schenectady County, saying the theater is the only attraction that draws people from a wide geographic area and therefore should be the one to receive the $33,935-a-year TPA grant.

So it is quite obvious that Morris is going to be getting fat raise at taxpayer expense.

   $200,000    per year, a line in the county budget, i.e., THE TAXPAYERS' MONEY
+    33,935    per year, in this "grant," i.e. THE TAXPAYERS' MONEY

$  233,935    per year TAXPAYER PAID salary to a CEO of a FOR PROFIT theater

Oh, is he getting a bonus too, the $90,000 that he STEALS via his "Executive Order" that volunteers  (MOST of whom are on fixed incomes) that they MUST PAY to volunteer!!!!!!!!


Now, notice the clause in the story:    "only attraction that draws people from a wide geographic area"

So, how many people buy things in Schenectady while here?
Heck, WHAT do they buy?  
What major retail businesses have made the choice to open downtown because of Proctors?   (Gee, what such businesses have even chosen to open downtown at all??
What has happened to the tax base in the city while Proctors is getting all the taxpayers' money?
What has happened to the tax BILLS of homeowners in the city while Proctors had gotten the taxpayers' money?
What has happened to the home values in the city since Proctors has been this big draw?
Any evidence to show that Proctors has been this big draw that is causing people to move INTO the city?
With Proctors, what has happened to the crime rate in the city?  the unemployment rate?   the poverty rate?  
With Proctors, what has happened to the essential, vital services provided by the city to it's TAXPAYING residents?



The taxpayers have a birthright entitlement to have all financial records of Proctors and the county, and the city, opened to them and presented by an independent source and explained in plain language.

And then this blurb in the story

But we ALL know the EVIDENCE has proven, as the mayor, himself, had stated, that sales tax is NOT being generated in the city.   If people are spending dollars in the city, why no sales tax generated in the city?

Obviously, in return for the tens of millions of taxpayer dollars handed out to Proctors, Proctors is NOT causing people to come here and spend dollars in the city !!!

Why didn't they give it to the Rose Garden Commitee. ???

Proctors is a business, it's time they start operating and budgeting like a business.

No wonder County taxes are going up 8%. A-Jello supported this taxpayer fraud. How do you

Let's see if we can get the city limits redrawn so that only downtown is in the city.

They would have a $60 million deficit the first year.

We're sure that the city taxpayers are just elated about this bullcrap!!!! Spending MORE of the taxpayer's money that the taxpayers DON'T HAVE!!!!

And what the hell does the Chamber do?????? Why isn't the chamber handling this 'tour thingy'??? BECAUSE they know it's a friggin' joke and that it is a waste of their time!!! But if anyone should be doing it.............it should be the chamber.............not a 'theater'....OMG!!!

you can't budget art/sports etc......it either is relevant or it's not and the public is quite fickle.....it's like schooling
children via the F'EN lotto and calling that a homerun for the responsible folks we elect to SOLID BOTTOM LINE
