While I think the girl acted amazingly for a 12 year old, most states frown upon leaving a 40 caliber Glock, where a 12 year old can have access to it.
Luckily she wasn't injured. A 40 Cal is a handful for a small girl to hold onto.
The reason I'm concerned over cases like these, is the gun owner could be charged for any actions committed by the gun, having been left out for others to use.

Looks like the parents taught her well, if you have a gun in your house every member of the family should know how to use it.

That's because most people buy into society's view which keeps people in a perpetual state of adolescence. We have laws that keep adults on their parents health insurance until 26 years old.
The real negligence is the government institutions, laws and the parents that promote and foster arrested development. It should be viewed as a form of mental abuse.

I agree. Just recently I heard someone say "25? That's too young to be raising children". However as to guns, I am not anti gun, but you have to agree, that given the current climate in NYS, even a rational, educated, and trained adult, has to very carefully consider when the use of firearms is justified.
It's very easy to be arrested, or sued for doing what you think was your best course of action in the situation. The kid could be another Annie Oakley, but I still wouldn't trust a 12 year old to make legal decisions for me.
