Confirmed: Mexican Radio to open in Schenectady October 14, 2012 at 10:05 pm by Steve Barnes, senior writer
After more than three years of negotiations and other effort, Mexican Radio has finalized a deal to open a restaurant in Schenectady, according to Lori Selden, who owns Mexican Radio with her husband, Mark Young. Selden tells me a late-summer opening is projected for the property, the former OTB building at 325 State St. Selden says the deal closed Friday. The couple will invest $3 million in the 1910 building at the corner of State Street and Broadway, which started life a department store called the Imperial.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be moving forward with our plans to bring Mexican Radio to Schenectady,” Selden said in a statement. “We are eager to jump in and be a positive part of Schenectady’s phenomenal downtown renaissance.”
Mexican Radio has locations in Manhattan and Hudson.

That's great...if Schenectady could redraw its borders to include the 1 mile proctors area...they'd be set...but they can't. 1% of the property in the city doing great while the other 99% is left to decay like a piece of sh*t is not my idea of a renaissance

Mexican Radio will open its third location, this one in the Capital District OTB building in downtown Schenectady, New York.
The Schenectady Mexican Radio will be Lori Selden and Mark Young's third location. They also operate Mexican Radios in Manhattan and in Hudson in Columbia County.
The married couple closed Oct. 12 on the purchase of 325 State St. from the Capital District Regional Off-Track Betting Corp.
They will invest a total of $3 million to makeover the circa-1910 building in the center of the city’s arts and entertainment district. The lenders are NBT Bank and the New York Business Development Corp.
Mexican Radio will build an outdoor patio and occupy 1,800 square feet inside for public dining, and private banquets and meetings. The remaining 8,000 square feet on the third floor will be leased for office space.
A $200,000 grant through the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority will be used toward asbestos abatement and exterior improvements.
An 2013 opening is planned.
The couple has been working since 2010 to open one of their Mexican Radios in Schenectady.
They said then that they planned to lease space in the OTB building, but the plans later fell through.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Isn't great when an entity such as the Metroplex can single-handedly create the worst economic environment for both the taxpayers and businesses?
So here we have two Mega-Mexican-Type Restaurants on the same block, getting the same tax breaks and Metroplex grants. So, the main source of competition for these restaurants lies with how much government-hand-outs they get even BEFORE their doors open. It's a warped concept not based on free enterprise. It's a government funded and supported business structure.
And the taxpayers.....they get NADA! Well, there are those dishwasher and other part-time jobs without benefits.
Homeowners are under orders of the city to fix their homes, but they have no money to fix up their homes because their money is going to Mexican Radio, so the city slaps fines on the homeowners.
When are the homeowners going to get handouts from Metroplex to fix up their own homes before they (the homeowners) are cited with code violations?
Why must the homeowners pay for all the renovations downtown.
And more tax exemptions---YES the tax base in the city is ready to take another plunge

This property is already 100% Excempt from paying taxes. Metroplex will give them another $200,000 to remain tax exempt......what a system. OTB tax excempt, learn something new everyday.

Another flop Downtown. Wait until you see the prices for so so fare. Stick to the real thing in Rotterdam or Woodlawn. Cutting the pie in smaller pieces with the homeowners getting screwed. Metrograft needs to be revoked. This exercise in Socialism has totally failed at creating any jobs and stabilizing real estate prices. Not one "journalist" can put the City's fiscal implosion and Metrograft tax exemptions together in a story?

Stop being so negative. Next summer you can buy a lousy $20 burrito Downtown! So what if Death Ray flushed another $200,000 on this "project". Don't mention the permanent tax exemptions for this nonsense.
Just wait for the photo-op for McC and Gillen, at the ribbon cutting, and the two will prance around saying "we created X number of new jobs."
Yeah, a bunch of low wage dishwashers, cleaning staff, and wait-staff are going to help the city.
