SCHENECTADY Consulting firm sees downtown as ‘great location’ JJT Empire aims to connect businesses to global network BY BETHANY BUMP Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Bethany Bump at 395-3107 or bbump@dailygazette.net.
A global consulting firm that launched overseas earlier this year will open its first location in Schenectady, where it plans to establish a new business center designed to connect Capital Region businesses to its global network. JJT Empire signed a lease with Galesi Group to occupy the entire top floor of 411 State St., a threestory building on the Proctors block currently occupied by Paul Mitchell The School on the first floor and vacant office space on the second floor. “Downtown Schenectady is a great location,” said JJT Empire Principal Jessica Close. “We appreciate the assistance we have received from Metroplex, the Center for Economic Growth and the Galesi Group as we searched for the right office space in the Capital Region.” JJT Empire helps companies expand and establish themselves in local, national and international markets by connecting them with potential investors, local businesses, public organizations and new business opportunities. Close said she wanted a U.S. office in the Capital Region and chose Schenectady after looking at several different spaces. About two weeks ago, the fi rm announced a strategic partnership with Migrate, a firm based in Jordan that helps businesses expand their markets and establish themselves in the Middle East and North Africa. As sister companies, JJT Empire can provide its customers with Migrate’s outsourcing services — its staffing, accounting, IT support, legal counsel, marketing and research. “We thought we could do what they have been doing so successfully in Jordan here in the U.S.,” said Close. JJT Empire has three employees to start and hopes to help local companies looking to expand and establish themselves in new international markets. The Schenectady center will give growing companies access to services such as shared offi ce space for reception and administrative services. It will also provide access to Migrate’s global network for business referral opportunities, collaboration on large-scale projects and investment partners.

And while a new probably money-making business moves into a property that does NOT pay taxes, DV, EXPLAIN how a a business that the homeonwers will pay for is good for the city
How good is it for the homeowner who pay increased taxes and/or are losing their homes
Come on chicken, why do you REFUSE to answer the question of homeowners paying such high taxes (to fund the dem cronies) while losing their homes.

I'm not exactly sure how these things work, but wasn't the tax exemption already given to the Galesi Group who is now leasing the space to JJT Empire?
Someone leasing wouldn't have to pay any tax to the city.

DV, please explain. Some ten years of MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on downtown. TELL US DV, tell us WHAT has it done for the city?
What has all this spending done?
What has been the effect on:
- the tax base in the city - the home values - the desirability to live IN the city - the vacancy rate of residential units - the tax BILLS in the city AND THE COUNTY - the ability for a city homeowners to sell their house - the crime rate - the unemployment rate - the teen pregnancy rate - the poverty rate - the level of city services
How about it, DV, tell us what the affect of this wild spending has been on these CRITICALLY IMPORTANT issues.
Well? These issues are critically important that EACH AND EVERY intelligent person in the city and county should be WILLING to discuss. Why do YOU refuse answer these questions as part of the discussion about the city?

Correct! The property owner is getting the exemption. Does the lease price reflect the exemption? Is the savings passed on to the leasee or does Galesi charge the market rate which would be in the same range as other commercial office space in the area that pay taxes? Does Galesi pocket the money he doesn't pay in property tax ? The fact is, not ALL commercial space in Schenectady is exempt, and so the owners of commercial property outside of downtown area are at a huge disadvantage. And at a bigger disadvantage is the resident that pays the extremely high taxes to subsidize these exempt property owners.
It would be a crime if this extortion was done by the mafia.
“Downtown Schenectady is a great location,” said JJT Empire Principal Jessica Close. “We appreciate the assistance we have received from Metroplex, the Center for Economic Growth and the Galesi Group as we searched for the right office space in the Capital Region.”
We've already established that this million dollar building is completely OFF the tax rolls.
Why do THREE EMPLOYEES deserve such grandstanding?
What MORE has the Plex given to these 3 individuals? Another grant????
I'm sure these THREE folks live in the city of schenectady and if they have kids they are in the schenectady school system. The high taxes, high crime and school system was surely the draw. tic
Funny how these tax free downtown businesses can rent out their space, but the homeowners can't sell their homes!!!

Excuse me, but we are NOT crying!
We are stating the TRUTHS about the city, county and metroplex under the dems and presenting the FACTS, supported with EVIDENCE, which show that the wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayer money has caused SUBSTANTIAL decline, mostly in the city, that this spending has NOT helped the city at all, and that the money is benefitting ONLY the millionaires and the dem political cronies.
YOU are the one who is crying because you cannot provide one teeny weeny shred of proof that downtown has helped the city, and probably you are crying because all your brown nosing has not resulted in any benefit to yourself.

Some people must be very desperate to find something to cry/complain about when they have to disparage a new business coming to their community. They need to grow up and/or seek professional help.

Some people are very desperate to sell their homes and move out of the high taxed hell hole city. So you are preaching to the wrong choir here. The rents are obvioulsy cheaper when the business don't have to include property/school taxes!! Unfortunately the home owners don't have that luxury when trying to sell their homes.
Again............do these THREE employees actually live in the city? Do they ride or walk through hamilton hill or mt. pleasant at night? Are they part of the schenectady residents who's children live in poverty?
Let's get real here.....k?
