On an unrelated note - Elm Street turned out not be a shooting.  Bunch of idiots bailed out fo a car and beat on someone's car with bats and other blunt
objects.

GB - That is about as articulate a post as I would expect from you, a worthless diatribe filled with references to feces and assorted childish nonsense.

rforpres - Well, I cannot question the sincerity or accuracy of most of your post.  Although they do devote a lot of resources to that part of Schenectady
Street, I know the police are not satisfied with the results.  One of the major sources of the problem there is marijuana, more specifically, how goverment
addresses the problem. The penalties for mj selling are minimal, the profits significant.  Because of that, the sellers of MJ face the choice of making a
lot of money with very little sanctions.  If the police catch someone in the act of selling mj, they probably have enough money in their pocket, to bail
themselves out.  Is selling mj violent, in and of itself?  No.  But, it creates an atmosphere of lawlessness and diminshes the quality of life.
Were it not for the mj selling on that street, the street would not attract a lot of the udnesirable element.

Suggested answer, the legislature has two choices, both related to changing the existing laws - (1)  Make the penalties more severe for open air dealing, especially near a park or other area where children are (e..g,. schools, youth centers).  (2) Legalize it and take the profit out of it.

Sorry visitor...........mj is not the major sell on the street..........it's prescription drugs and HEROIN!!!! How 'bout catching them? How bout doing a sweep on all vacant properties where there are crack houses everywhere. It is a bit funny that the residents happen to know where the heroin deals are going down and where the crack houses are....but the copsdon't?????????

The MJ issue is a tough one for me, I lean towards it being legalized, but then the problem is will it become another
entitlement for those that cannot afford it.  I'm all in favor for the medicinal use for cancer patients, multiple sclerosis
etc for it has far less side effects in the amount used than many of the prescription pain meds out there.

As for the programs for the kids, like visitor stated there are programs out there, my two older kids went to the Art
Center, joined in the basketball games at Jerry Burrell Park, joined the bowling team at Mt. Pleasant Lanes, and did
alot of what we did as kids, played kick ball, went sledding etc.......

Jerry Burrell has alot of nice new playground equipment, but what do some of the kids do, they grab the glass bottles
and shatter them in the park and street, they throw rocks at houses, and again like I mentioned the majority of kids at the park are unsupervised. During the summer when they have the free lunches and arts and crafts, tennis etc, the
kids are supervised, but after that.......

I agree with bumble that the city is happy keeping this contained to HH and Mt. Pleasant.

And alot of this goes back to the parents or lack of parenting.

I see the foot patrols downtown, be nice to have them in other parts of the city.

No reason this can't happen.

forgot to add heard there were shots fired at Steimetz homes last night or this morning?

You are wrong.  While there are places where cocaine and heroin are sold - the main problem on Schenectady Street  is marijuana sales.  There are arrests in that area on a weekly basis.

again - it's not simply mj being the problem, it's the fact that there is a lot of money in it, and teh penalties are virtually non-existent

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
