Given the two murders, in less than two weeks, in THE IMMEDIATE NEIGHBORHOOD of Kilcullen's mother, this new top cop, IF he cares anything about his mother, he WILL move her out of the city fast.
Then where is he going to sleep?
So, again, WHY is he refusing to buy a house IN the city and moving his family into the city? Why?
Since he CAN more than afford the expense of sending his daughter to a private school, the school issue is not an excuse for not moving into the city.
So WHY won't he move his family INTO the city????? Why not?
I agree. It isn't an excuse. How do you explain to your daughter that you had to live away 75% of the time to save Schenectady? How do you support your recovering addict wife while living with your parents? Its a sh1tty move as a husband or father. Very selfish....... or a complete lie to the city taxpayers.

By year's end almost 1/3 of SPD will be Tier 5 I
You mean that despite the massive financial hole, in the red, the city actually has money to hire that many cops, I mean, isnt there a force of about 150, so one-third would be 50 new cops this year? |

Hey, I have rental properties, I don't live in them, but according to the crap that happens in Schenectady, let me get STAR exemptions on those. Apparently you don't have to live in Schenectady to get the perks you want!!
Fact is, there is a residency law on the books for this position. To have Kilcullen opt to live with his mama is an insult to the law in place. The leader of the department not abiding by the law....ONLY in Schenectady does this happen daily!!!! |

So let me get this straight.......Kilcullen is going to 'sleep' at his parents home during the week??? First.....who is going to follow him home at night to make sure he does? the city doesn't follow through on ANYTHING....why would they start now? I would suggest that they take that 'residency law' off the books before the city ends up with a law suit.
In ref. to "First..... who is going to follow him home at night to make sure he does?" It's possible that Ms. Moore of the Gazette may be on the trail, as she was with the uncovering of Ex-Officer Johnsons sleeping on the job incident. |

Recently the City advertised in the Gazette classifieds for a position (Plumber) with the city. The ad stated must be a city resident or willing to move here within 6 months of the hire. And why does not this requirement apply to PD/FD hires? Are they excluded by their contract not to follow the residency requirement? It would be most interesting to assemble a list of all the stated reasons why they will not move into Schenectady. |

You would think they would make employees work for 20% less or something if they failed to become residents. At least that way the taxpayers get something. |

rachel72 - It is not the law. The residency law does not apply to the police officers and if civil service law was followed he is not required to move into the city.
If you think he should live in the city as a police officer and as the Chief, fine. But, it is not the law. |

" Mayor Gary McCarthy initially balked at promoting anyone to chief because none of the candidates up for promotion lives in the city. By Civil Service law, he had to choose between Kilcullen, Michael Seber and Patrick Leguire, all assistant chiefs. They were the only ones to take a Civil Service exam for the position.
McCarthy said he felt the next chief had to live in the city, questioning the message it would send if the chief refused to move here."Yes, the Mayor has enforced these residency requirements ...but who's he? Right?? A joke to our community?? Why listen to the guy who was elected right?? Sad that the City has open houses, contractor discounts, free CDTA passes with each home purchase and even with incentives....even the police, fire and City workers all know better than to live here. Can't even make the people live here who make over $130K of the taxpayer money....is it REALLY that bad of a City when even Kilcullen won't come back?!? Well yes...yes it is! |
