DVOR - maybe you didn't see or read the first post in this blog, I think you said you have that person blocked (not sure though)
SOME appearances were cancelled - including the one at City Hall.
I didn't read the first post because I don't read anything posted by Victor/Victoria anymore but it is clear from the thread title that he/she just wanted an excuse to post a hysterical, negative and MISLEADING commentary about the city.
I choose to deal with the facts and try to be reasonable in my opinions. I realize that the City of Schenectady is not perfect. However, I have always been a "the glass is half-full rather than half-empty" optimistic sort of person. Personally, I believe that Schenectady is improving. It certainly is a hell of lot better than it was 10 ago. Finally, I sincerely believe that the constantly negative and greatly hysterical, misleading posts and statements made by some on this blog to NOTHING to help the situation.

OK, please list the things that are better than 10 years ago. Can you do that DV????
What are the taxes now compared to 10 years ago.
What's the tax base now compared to 10 years ago.
What's the home values now compared to 10 years ago?
Can you provide answers to those questions to show HOW it's better than 10 years ago?
We bought our home here in town in the mid 90's for almost 80K, today houses around us are selling for $150K. My brother-in-law in Saratoga has seen his house, with no additions, triple in value since a little less than that. One of our neighbors had a house in Schenectady that when the city went to full value assessment in 1992, their house was assessed for about $98,000, and DV, because you have are not and never have been a homeowner, I will educate you that the term "full value assessment" means the assessment value is equivalent to the full market value, and market value means the dollar amount a house would sell for on the open market. They had sold it to their son about 10 years later so the purchase price is irrelevant. Now, another ten years later almost, their son had his job transferred to PA and they have been trying to sell it, the city claims their house is worth $120,000, they listed it for sale almost a year ago for $110,000 and it's currently asking somewhere under $85,000.
Now, DV, the FACTS, the EVIDENCE, here's a house where the tax BILL has MORE THAN DOUBLED in 20 years and the house is worth a lot less
DV, perhaps you can explain how the substantial increase in houses available for sale coupled with the drastic decrease in houses that actually get sold, now, compared to 10 years ago, is reflective of the city being better.
And, by the way DV, you have stated that the county taxes are lower than 50 years ago, have you found even one teeny weeny shred of evidence to support your claim? Oh wait, you didn't state that, you merely copied and pasted from the LIES in the dem party political campaign propaganda, and obviously because you don't own property and never have, you can't provide any evidence of that dem party statement which was merely a lie.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Statements are NOT misleading, they are the TRUTHs, and in the case of my posts, I have provided EVIDENCE.
Sure, DV, the FACT that the tax base in the city has taken a DRASTIC TUMBLE DOWNWARD simultaneously with wild uncontrolled spending of hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on downtown, is a statement that MUST be drilled into the minds of each and every resident of the city.
The people MUST be told the truth and the truth is negative. Look what has happened in education over the years, the whacky people today think that children can never have anything negative, no failing marks, pass the kids to the next grade even though they failed, don't tell them they failed. And then they cannot make it as adults So, as the city is failing, you don't want people to know the truth. Hide the truth and make believe everything is fine.
