Right....because a parking lot or dirt pit would generate the same taxes that this building assessed at $250000 does.

The building should have been torn down when it was declared unsafe back in the 1970's but unfortunately the parish had neither the money nor the desire to tear it down then.   One of St. Mary's Church's drawbacks was that it did not have adequate parking and the space taken up by the unused former school building would have been ideal for additional parking.  Additional parking would have gone a long way towards keeping that parish viable and vibrant.  Unfortunately, we can not undo the past and only move forward.

Nothing like the 2 by 4 structures they made at the corner of Barett and Union Street.

If you are referring to the newly constructed condos/apts. built/leased by Maddalone, you'd think all construction aspects would be up to code there, and maybe they are, what with PLEX $$$$$ involved.

Don't know if all of you here caught this the other night on the council mtg.   In the resolutions part,pre-actual mtg.,the council gave one to the Sch'dy Symphony for their contributions to the city.   The speaker for the Sypmphony noted in his remarks that 90% of the Symphony members live within 45 minutes of the city.   Sound familiar?   And they are not even employed by the city so they can't be using city vehicles to commute.   Our first thought was, Gee,even the Symphony volunteers don't want to live here,or have long ago moved on.   How ironic it all seemed.    You all can watch it on the replay on OSM.
