Quoted Text
I have ended my campaign for State Supreme Court Justice effective immediately.

Over the weekend, delegates to the Democratic Party's Judicial Convention in the 4th Judicial District selected a slat...e that did not include me. The outcome might have been different if voters had the opportunity to vote in an open primary --- as they are allowed to do in almost every other election -- but New York Election Law requires State Supreme Court candidates to be chosen through the convention process. Of course, I am disappointed in the convention's decision, but I thank the delegates for their service.

I also want to thank the hundreds of citizens I have had the privilege to meet and to spend time with over the past few months. I was humbled by their warm and graciousness welcome, and energized by their community spirit. I especially want to thank family members and friends, old and new, including many former colleagues from the legal profession, who supported me along the way.

With the candidate selection process behind me now, I look forward to turning my full attention again to what's most important: my wife and children, and my community. And I am very grateful to be able to continue serving the people of the great City of Schenectady as a City Court Judge.

I must say, that Mr. Blanchfield's statements, seem to parrot of those of a spoiled child.

"If you won't let me play, then I'm going to take my football and go home."

Sour grapes methinks.

being a democrap means he is not qualified. To democraps, Abi Mummia Jamal is a hero, Israel is a problem and guns should only be in the hands of criminals.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Visitor, really? You really believe that tripe? I'm surprised you're unaware of how those things (politics) work. Mr. Blanchfields statement sounds like it came from the "Politicians Handbook on How to Respond to Unfavorable Situations". I'm disappointed in you Visitor, I thought you were much more astute.

The following is all I need to know. In my opinion it isnt his qualifications that I question, it is his judgement.   This victim received 200 stitches and was almost killed by these animals and he gives her 30 days to think about it.  Remember this 30 days also takes care of the August 2010 incident that was never anwered by Tirado.

SCHENECTADY — A judge told the owner of three pit bulls that savaged a woman last year that he hopes she would take some time during her 30-day jail sentence to reflect on how her irresponsibility in controlling her dogs has had an indelible impact on the victim.

"This is the kind of thing that somebody has to live with for the rest of their life," City Court Judge Mark Blanchfield told the defendant, Jasmine Tirado, 21, who appeared Friday with her attorney, Heather Gray. She declined comment afterward.

During the court appearance, Tirado pleaded guilty to a total of three misdemeanor dangerous dog charges under the city ordinance related to two separate incidents. In one instance, her dogs attacked another dog in 2010, then in August they mauled Shirleen Lucas so badly that the woman needed 200 stitches. The defendant surrendered Friday to begin serving her jail time.

Under the plea bargain, Tirado was also ordered to pay about $2,000 in fines to the city and for medical costs related to the dog-on-dog attack. The figure does not include any compensation for Lucas, 58, who has filed a notice of claim against the city and others for the attack which occurred early around 1 a.m. Aug. 22 as she walked on Hulett Street in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood.

Tirado did not offer any explanation for the incident during Friday's hearing.

Her three dogs, all of which have since been euthanized, pounced on Lucas and dragged her, ripping off parts of her ears and causing deep gashes to her head, arms and legs.

On Friday, Lucas said she didn't think Tirado's punishment fit the crime.

"I'm not happy with the 30 days, I think she should get more," said Lucas, adding she thinks that 2 years behind bars would have been a more appropriate punishment.

Lucas said she had her first surgery to repair her severed ear on March 13 and has another one scheduled for Tuesday.

She also said she still has nightmares about the attack and still has fears about walking, so much so that even though her church is around the corner from her house, she has someone drive her there.

The plea deal also covers another ticket for dangerous dogs in April 2010 that Tirado never answered. In that case, one of the same pit bulls that mauled Lucas attacked another dog on Barrett Street in downtown Schenectady, according to Assistant Corp. Counsel Carl Falotico. He said the penalty Tirado accepted was the harshest within recent memory for a dog case and is meant to send a message to dog owners that the city expects them to take proper care of their pets in accordance to municipal laws.

"You have a right to have pets but you have to take care of them," Falotico said.

In September, Tirado had pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor dangerous dog charges, which carry 90 days in jail each.
"This is a terrible incident you have been involved in, but you have taken responsibility, and let's hope things turn around," Blanchfield told Tirado.

District #4 of the New York State Supreme Court covers a large territory from just outside Utica to the Vermont border and from Schenectady County to the Canadian border.   Each party sends delegates from all of the counties in the district to a Judicial Convention to make the official party nominations to be on the ballot in November.  Schenectady County's delegates to that Judicial Convention are only a fraction of the total delegates -- so even if a candidate has 100% of the Schenectady County delegates that is not enough to ensure securing the nomination.

Judge Blanchfield is a good person and - from everything that I know - a good city court judge.  I was hoping that he would be nominated to run this time around.  Unfortunately, he will now have to wait for another year.

And can you tell us how his decisions have helped the city, and the homeowners and their taxes?   You DO know he is part of the dem socialists who have been RUINING the city by taxing the homeowners so high that they are or are in danger of losing their homes, just so your dem political cronies downtown don't have to pay taxes, and RUINING the city by DRASTICALLY reducing the tax base, and causing home values to plummet so that no one wants to buy a home IN the city.    Proof is that even YOU are REFUSING to buy a house IN the city

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.

speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
